argument. This argument can be expanded by asking whether serial killers commit crimes because of genetic dispositions or whether a person can be taught to be a serial killer. As a victimologist, it is important that you understand that the serial killers don't necessarily fit nicely into a little box with a theory label attached. Therefore, you know how and why a particular theory is used in these cases. This will help you predict and possibly prevent future victimization.
Victimology is important in the overall investigative process because it not only provides information about the victims (their health, personal history, social habits, and personalities) but also explains why they became victims.
To understand victimology, it is important to understand the method of approach, the method of attack, and the risk assessment by the offender. If we know the victim's personality, then we may be able to determine, in conjunction with an analysis of the crime scene, how the offender initially approached the victim. The same will apply to the way the victim was attacked and overpowered.
If this information cannot be obtained by studying the crime scene, then an analysis of the victim's overall risk, that is, the chances of his or her becoming a victim, may help. If we examine this along with the risks the offender was willing to take to acquire a certain victim, then we will get an overall picture of who the victim was and what drove the offender to choose a particular person as a victim.
Learning about the victims of serial killers is not less important than learning about carjacking, robbery, or theft victims. Learning about serial killers' victims is as important as studying the victims of carjacking, robberies, or thefts. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken the broad spectrum of terrorism and divided the types into two areas: domestic terrorism and international terrorism. The definitions for both areas are rather broad in scope. According to Watson, domestic terrorism is defined by the FBI as “the unlawful use, or threatened use, of violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States (or its territories) without foreign direction” (para. 8). Additionally, the FBI uses the definition of “violent acts or acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or any state, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or any state. Acts are intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policy of a government, or affect the conduct of a government” (para. 9) for their international terrorism category.
Both domestic and international terrorism is rooted in extremist and their ideals and the use of tactics that promote terror to further their agenda. According to Martin (2019), the typical objectives for terrorism are to change the existing order, social disruption, psychological disruption, and creating a revolutionary environment (pp. 10-11).
Eric Rudolph was responsible for the July 27, 1996 bombing during the XXVI Summer Olympiad in Atlanta when he used a nail-laden pipe bomb in Centennial Olympic Park that killed a woman who had driven with her daughter to Atlanta to celebrate the Olympics, and injured over 100 others (History, 2010, para. 1). According to the FBI, the motives behind Rudolph’s attack included his anti-government, anti-gay, and other biases (para. 12).

This week I found a great website that provides information about gangs in Virginia. Virginia Gang Investigators Association (vgia.org) lists over 170 articles about different cases involving gangs that are either ongoing or were recently prosecuted.
I read about a Bedford County case where a MS-13 gang member was charged with brutally murdering a Lynchburg teenager. He was found guilty of capital murder. Kevin Soto-Bonilla (offender) was also charged with participation in a criminal act in association with a criminal street gang (VGIA). The article stated Soto-Bonilla helped cut the victims hand off and also helped abduct the victim from his home. The article doesn’t go into much detail about why this was done, other than just saying it was gang activity.
MS-13 is short for Mara Salvatrucha, but the criminal organization is better known by its abbreviation. Most members are from El Salvador or are first generation Salvadoran-Americans (VGIA). MS-13 started in Los Angeles in the late 1980s, but the group has spread toward the East Coast since then (VGIA).
The MS-13 motto is to “kill, rape and control”, according to the article. This is different than Mafia groups out of New York City. Mafia groups seem to be more profit-driven and the family relations is a big characteristic in the group. MS-13 seem to have more random violent acts, which aren’t linked to a crime being committed for money.
I also read an article about Shannon Sanchez, who had gotten away from the MS-13 gang. After hanging around with the gang in high school, she married and had several children. But as an adult, she became involved again with MS-13 and helped cover up a brutal gang murder (VGIA). Sanchez was sentenced in federal court in Alexandria to 70 months in prison. Sanchez burned the other offender’s clothes and gave the gang bleach to clean the murder weapon (VGIA).

The Triads are an Transnational Organized Crime Group based out of Asia. Hong Kong is their home base but have several small bases throughout the world, including America, Spain and Taiwan. The Triads have been a developed organized crime group for over one hundred years. I have not read anything that a member of the Triads must be Chinese, but, from what I read, they get members from Hong-Kong. Those who are young and impressionable who have dropped out of school or seeking asylum. They are known for human trafficking in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. I have not read anything about high members being arrested but the younger receipts usually are. The Triads put the younger ones in danger because if they get caught the will have a lesser sentence and are more disposable than that of leaders. Not only is human trafficking a profit for them but more recently they are in the business of black market of smuggling endangered fish and high end seafood. The term paper consists of two parts. Part 1 - select a domestic or international terrorist organization that threatens the U.S. homeland and complete a profile of that organization. The group profile should be approximately 50 percent of the final paper and must include a discussion of the group's ideology, targeting, tactics, capability, and overall goals, analysis of attacks, and any statements or propaganda released by the group. Make sure you have enough information on the group to address all these factors and how it affects the US homeland.
A foreign terrorist group for this project must be on the official list of foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs) maintained by the U.S. Department of State. In the case of domestic terrorist groups, there is no sanctioned list from which to choose, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has made significant arrests from several groups that would fit the description of a domestic terrorist group. The FBI also names many other groups in congressional testimony. To understand victimology, it is important to understand the method of approach, the method of attack, and the risk assessment by the offender. If we know the victim's personality, then we may be able to determine, in conjunction with an analysis of the crime scene, how the offender initially approached the victim. The same will apply to the way the victim was attacked and overpowered.
If this information cannot be obtained by studying the crime scene, then an analysis of the victim's overall risk, that is, the chances of his or her becoming a victim, may help. If we examine this along with the risks the offender was willing to take to acquire a certain victim, then we will get an overall picture of who the victim was and what drove the offender to choose a particular person as a victim.
Learning about the victims of serial killers is not less important than learning about carjacking, robbery, or theft victims. Learning about serial killers' victims is as important as studying the victims of carjacking, robberies, or thefts. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken the broad spectrum of terrorism and divided the types into two areas: domestic terrorism and international terrorism. The definitions for both areas are rather broad in scope. According to Watson, domestic terrorism is defined by the FBI as “the unlawful use, or threatened use, of violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States (or its territories) without foreign direction” (para. 8). Acts are intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policy of a government, or affect the conduct of a government” (para. 9) for their international terrorism category.
Both domestic and international terrorism is rooted in extremist and their ideals and the use of tactics that promote terror to further their agenda. According to Martin (2019), the typical objectives for terrorism are to change the existing order, social disruption, psychological disruption, and creating a revolutionary environment (pp. 10-11).
Eric Rudolph was responsible for the July 27, 1996 bombing during the XXVI Summer Olympiad in Atlanta when he used a nail-laden pipe bomb in Centennial Olympic Park that killed a woman who had driven with her daughter to Atlanta to celebrate the Olympics, and injured over 100 others (History, 2010, para. 1). According to the FBI, the motives behind Rudolph’s attack included his anti-government, anti-gay, and other biases (para. 12).

This week I found a great website that provides information about gangs in Virginia. Virginia Gang Investigators Association (vgia.org) lists over 170 articles about different cases involving gangs that are either ongoing or were recently prosecuted.
I read about a Bedford County case where a MS-13 gang member was charged with brutally murdering a Lynchburg teenager. He was found guilty of capital murder. Kevin Soto-Bonilla (offender) was also charged with participation in a criminal act in association with a criminal street gang (VGIA). The article stated Soto-Bonilla helped cut the victims hand off and also helped abduct the victim from his home. The article doesn’t go into much detail about why this was done, other than just saying it was gang activity.
MS-13 is short for Mara Salvatrucha, but the criminal organization is better known by its abbreviation. Most members are from El Salvador or are first generation Salvadoran-Americans (VGIA). MS-13 started in Los Angeles in the late 1980s, but the group has spread toward the East Coast since then (VGIA).
The MS-13 motto is to “kill, rape and control”, according to the article. This is different than Mafia groups out of New York City. Mafia groups seem to be more profit-driven and the family relations is a big characteristic in the group. MS-13 seem to have more random violent acts, which aren’t linked to a crime being committed for money.
I also read an article about Shannon Sanchez, who had gotten away from the MS-13 gang. After hanging around with the gang in high school, she married and had several children. But as an adult, she became involved again with MS-13 and helped cover up a brutal gang murder (VGIA). Sanchez was sentenced in federal court in Alexandria to 70 months in prison. Sanchez burned the other offender’s clothes and gave the gang bleach to clean the murder weapon (VGIA).

The Triads are an Transnational Organized Crime Group based out of Asia. Hong Kong is their home base but have several small bases throughout the world, including America, Spain and Taiwan. The Triads have been a developed organized crime group for over one hundred years. I have not read anything that a member of the Triads must be Chinese, but, from what I read, they get members from Hong-Kong. Those who are young and impressionable who have dropped out of school or seeking asylum. They are known for human trafficking in New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. I have not read anything about high members being arrested but the younger receipts usually are. The Triads put the younger ones in danger because if they get caught the will have a lesser sentence and are more disposable than that of leaders. Not only is human trafficking a profit for them but more recently they are in the business of black market of smuggling endangered fish and high end seafood. I would say they are like the Mafia with a hierarchal rank structure, but more like gangs in how they recruit ...

The term paper consists of two parts. Part 1 - select a domestic or international terrorist organization that threatens the U.S. homeland and complete a profile of that organization. The group profile should be approximately 50 percent of the final paper and must include a discussion of the group's ideology, targeting, tactics, capability, and overall goals, analysis of attacks, and any statements or propaganda released by the group. Make sure you have enough information on the group to address all these factors and how it affects the US homeland.
A foreign terrorist group for this project must be on the official list of foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs) maintained by the U.S. Department of State. In the case of domestic terrorist groups, there is no sanctioned list from which to choose, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has made significant arrests from several groups that would fit the description of a domestic terrorist group. The FBI also names many other groups in congressional testimony. Materials presented in the first module, as well as recent news and congressional testimony, are good sources of information on how to identify domestic groups for this project.
Part 2 - use the group profile to conduct an analysis of one or more U.S. homeland security policies studied in module 2, to assess the ability of the policy or policies to counter the threat posed by the group profiled. This analysis should begin with an introduction and explanation of the policy, followed by an analysis addressing the breadth of the information(from part 1) gathered on that terrorist group. The policy you analyze should be consistent with the group; for example, if you choose a domestic terrorist group, it would be improper to analyze the Secure Border Initiative and its ability to counter a domestic threat, because the members of the group are already within the nation's borders. If you find the policy deficient, make specific recommendations for policy change to counter the threat. Mark Davis has been
charged
with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) for reckless driving, speeding, four counts of felony assault, and one count of involuntary manslaughter as the result of a crash that occurred on a night out with his friends. Mark has been out on bail and pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned. The Judge set a date for Mark's trial and his defense team has been working to collect information about the technology used by the Highway Patrol to reconstruct the crash.
District Attorney O'Malley offered Mark a plea bargain, but Mark chose to take his chances at trial. Mark's attorney, Mr. Chen Long, advised Mark that accepting the plea offer was completely up to Mark, although Mr. Long advised against accepting it because the defense planned to highlight mistakes made by law enforcement during the investigation that could create reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors.
The trial begins and during the voir dire of potential jurors, several individuals are excused because they have previous knowledge of Mark's case from the media. Two individuals stated that they could not be impartial because they had loved ones
killed
in alcohol related crashes as well. Eventually, two men and ten women were seated in Mark's trial.
District Attorney O'Malley presented the State's case clearly and concisely depicting a night on the town full of heavy drinking, which ultimately resulted in Mark's actions causing the death of one individual and injuring four others. Highway Patrolman Green explained to the jury that he immediately suspected alcohol when he arrived on scene because Mark appeared to be intoxicated when they spoke. Following the Judge ruling that it was admissible and not prejudicial, Sergeant Rodney Monroe, from the Highway Patrol Reconstruction Team presented their reconstruction complete with a high-tech computer animated reenactment of the crash. During the cross examination, Defense Attorney Long challenged the reconstruction because the Defense Crash Reconstruction Expert had discovered errors in the mathematical calculations for vehicle speed. The jury appeared to have liked the reconstruction very much regardless of the errors highlighted by the defense.
Mark was convicted of DWI, four counts of felony assault, and one count of involuntary manslaughter; however, he was acquitted of reckless driving and speeding. The Jury said they could not convict Mark of those offenses because of the mistakes made by law enforcement officers during the investigation.
Because Mark pleads not guilty, but was convicted during trial and had two prior DWI offenses, he was sentenced to ten years in the State Prison. Defense Attorney Long immediately notified the court of an impending appeal that would be filed by the defendant. In a report, using external sources to support your claims, answer the following:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
