Big Mess Short Story
Big Mess The afternoon news is on, grab your popcorn and have a seat on the couch, grandma

an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident on Tuesday, approximately at
9:30 A.M. Four vehicles were involved in a collision that occurred on Crash Road. We are unable
to give out the names of the drivers at this time. Someone is being detained as a person of interest

She lit a candle on top of the apple pie, and they all sing Happy Birthday . Abigail and Sally were
sitting under the tree, suddenly a debate started Could it be the sun glare or the poor conditions of
the road might be the trigger? No one reported seeing a rabbit.
The apple cider s judges were busy set up their tables at the party. Grandpa and grandma rush over
to enter their jars.
Then the Police Chief and the City Mayor walked in. Stop right there, you can t enter the apple

The most probable cause of the caries development is the increased acidity within the oral cavity,
sugary foods and lack of proper attention to oral health. Dental caries is evident clinically through
Jenny s intraoral examination that reveals the patient has moderate restoration on her dentition all

the 25 occlusal surface distal aspect and a suspicious shadow on the 26 mesially.
According to research, caries is a common condition that women face when they get to the
reproductive age (Gaffar et al, 2016). Women experience higher risks due to the changes that they
undergo during pregnancy. It is a common assumption that when women are pregnant, they
develop craving for sugary foods and drinks. The examination reveals that Jenny likes eating
chocolates and biscuits, which in combination of her neglect of brushing her teeth, mark Jenny a
high risk patient for developing dental caries. In additional to the clinical finding of caries
activity, it is important to incorporate radiography into the diagnostic process of dental caries.
(Serman, 2003) Radiographs are often essential for the early detection of interproximal caries and
determination of the disease progress. For a suspicious caries, such as clinical finding of 26 mesial
shadow on Jenny, bite wing radiograph offers the prefect solution for the

A Classroom Divided By Martin Luther King Jr.
A Classroom Divided, is a Classroom United On the day following the assassination of Martin
Luther King Jr., third grade teacher Mrs. Elliot altered her lesson plans surrounding the class unit
on discrimination to concretely teach the students by having them experience the unfairness of
bigotry firsthand. In 1970, the lesson was filmed for a documentary to demonstrate the implications
of stereotypes. The class was split into two groups based on a characteristic of minimal importance
in the societal context: eye color, to develop stereotypical behaviors among the students. On
Tuesday, the first day of the experiment, the students were deemed the blue eyed students and the
brown eyed students. In order, to develop the same type of racism that is generated among whites
and colors, Mrs. Elliot started to describe the differences between the two groups. The brown eyed
students were deemed less intelligent and inform that they would be allowed five minutes less time
for recess, not be allowed to use the drinking fountain and had to wear collars so they could be
identified. Additionally, the two groups could not participate in any activities together and to
demonstrate their incompetence that was initially dismissed by the blue eyed students she provided
examples in which the student hit their little sister or forgot their glasses deeming them forgetful,
incompetent and mean. For the second day of the lesson, the roles were reversed and similar
stereotypes were appointed.

Amel Saleh Rhetorical Analysis
Amel Saleh s argument that the holiday season is too materialistic, is a well defended statement
because she appeals to all three rhetoric appeals, and uses solid evidence to defend her position.
Her essay gives insight to how gifting giving has lost its true value, . In Amel Saleh s essay, it
states, Despite the fact that the United States holds 4.5 percent of the world s population, we
consume 40 percent of the toys. According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to
recognize 200 brands and obtains 70 new toys a year. This is an example of the author using
logos, since America consumes 40 percent of the world s toys, logically kids would be able to
identity a variety of toy brands. It makes parents stop and analyze themselves on... Show more

This shows who the audience is, the author says, Are we raising our kids... , which shows that
she s talking directly to parents. In the essay, it states, When those teenagers become adults they
will expect to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders
like narcissism, separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos
here, because parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the
cause of their child s problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The
quote is also the Ethos of the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the
psyche works on individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have
on children. The author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying
gifts for your loved ones... Just don t overindulge and do try to make them meaningful. . This shows
how the author understands that gift giving isn t a bad thing, but individuals should do it in
moderation, and not forget the true meaning of the

Descriptive Essay On Gymnastics
Gymnastics was a big part of my life and I was very excited when I got my first complicated skill it
had taken me about 2 years to get the skill. It was Saturday and my day started off by eating some
breakfast, my mom had made pancakes and bacon and they were delicious. I finished off my
breakfast and my dad told me to go get ready because we were going to run some errands and so I
did, I picked out this red shirt with free shoulder it was kind of big on me so, it looked like a dress
but I liked it that way, to go with the long red shirt. I picked out some black tights because they
seemed comfy. On my hair, I did a half up half down with a bun at the top and I got my favorite
brown sandals and put them on. Before my familyleft I had to do my bed, because my dad said, if I
kept my room clean all year I would be able to get a new phone, I cleaned my bed and rushed out
the door. When my family and I were in the car, my dad started singing and I was cringing so
hard but, I didn t tell him anything because that would be rude. We stopped at Winco to get
groceries. My brother was excited because whenever we went to the grocery store he would get
a bar of candy. This time it wasn t any different, we bought the food and went to pay my job was
always to put the groceries into the bags which is fun. We headed into the car and my parents
loaded the groceries into the trunk. We started driving into the mall, so I could buy some shorts for
summer, because all I had were pants. We

There was a higher risk of amputation of toes, feet, or legs with canagliflozin than with placebo
(6.3 vs. 3.4 participants with amputation per 1000 patient years, a hazard ratio of 1.97; 95% CI,
1.41 to 2.75), with 71% of the affected participants having their highest amputation at the level of
the toe or metatarsal
The rate of all fractures was higher with canagliflozin than with placebo (15.4 vs. 11.9 participants
with fracture per 1000 patient years; hazard ratio, 1.26; 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.52)
ConclusionPatients with established DM2 and CVD or high risk for CVD in the canagliflozin had
significantly lower rates of primary cardiovascular outcome than patients assigned to placebo
The results also showed that patients in the treatment group had a lower risk of hospitalization for
heart failure, progression of albuminuria, and loss of kidney function
The increased risk of amputation in the canagliflozin group warrants care in assessing high risk

Threats Facing The Server, Workstations, And Website
Recently, a series of security incidents on the company s website, workstations, and network have
been brought to the attention of the company. These incidents include the slow and sluggish
behavior of workstations, advertisement pop ups on workstations not accessing the internet,
deletion and defacement of the website, and reports by customers of the website becoming
unavailable. While the incidents are being remediated, this has necessitated compiling
information on potential threats the company s network assets face. In that endeavor, it is
recommended to review this list of the current top 5 threats facing the server, workstations, and
website. Understanding how these threats potentially impact the company is vital in developing
controls and countermeasures to the threats listed and could prevent additional future threats
that take advantage of the same vectors. Threats to the Server 1. Buffer Overflow Attack A
buffer overflow attack is a threat to the server with serious potential consequences. In a buffer
overflow attack overly long input streams are sent to the server. This will cause the server to
overflow parts of the servers memory, the goal of the attack will be to execute arbitrary code
embedded in the input streams as if it was the servers code. Even if the attack fails, it can cause a
process, application, or the server to crash. Upon a successful attack data can be added, destroyed,
or an attacker can gain control of the server. Without data execution

Specifi Servant-Leadership Theory Of Military Leadership
Because USAA was founded and is managed by high ranking officers in the military, the ingrained
military leadership philosophy, which is the rational investigation of the truths and principles of
being, knowledge or conduct, is the type of foundation which guides the organizational culture and
environment of the company (Colonel Maureen K. Leboeuf, US Army, n.d.). With that being
noted, the principles of the hiring practice at USAA designates that one in four applicants selected
should at least be a veteran. Generally speaking, who would be better to serve military individuals
in the company than an individual who truly understands the needs of the military family?
According to the Government Information Library and A Best Practices Report; The employees at
USAA work in a campus like environment situated on 286 acres of rolling land, which provides a
sense of space and tranquility. Employees are provided with parking, fitness and recreation
facilities, and many other employee benefits that enhance their cultural climate (1997). Because this
set up is quite common for a call center environment, the leadership styles chosen tends to be the
most effective, efficient, and applicable to this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at the transactional leadership approach, which is management by exception and is
common in military operations, The transactional leadership style upholds this mission through
leaders who create dynamic relationships with subordinates (Clintron, J., n.d.). USAA combines the
best of all three as the foundation of its organizational culture. There are many departments within
the organization and through our research it is noted that even though innovation is highly
cultivated, positive leadership development is essential, and core values are deep rooted, shared

Coca Cola Vs. Pepsi Cola Essay
The smooth bold refreshing taste as the cold bubbles fizz on your tongue and head down your
throat and into your stomach. Coca Cola is something the average American has drank in his or
her lifetime. This has been in part due to the remarkably intelligent advertisements that were
made in post 1945 America. While having emphasis on its refreshing cool taste and
convenience, these ads created a certain attitude with its audience causing the rise in popularity
and sales. During this same time Pepsi was also on the rise competing with Coca Cola. Both
Coke and Pepsi used similar strategies but Coca Cola gave itself a slight edge through
innovative technique and the use of lifestyle advertising. Coca Cola really did create a
refreshing beverage but created an ad campaign using refreshing, exciting, and humorous ads that
made your mouth water. Looking at both advertisements as a whole one notices how all of the
ads for both companies are paintings of people, which makes people compare themselves to
something that is not real. At this time many men and women were greatly affected by these ads.
Women particularly would notice the unrealistic waistlines and flawless skin and tone. This
caused them to become self conscience about their bodies because they believed those images to
be something they were to copy. This technique plays with the psyche of our society, which is
clever but very controversial. Established in 1886 and 1889, Coca Cola and Pepsi Co., respectively,

Cause And Effect Of Burmese Pythons
The Burmese python (Python bivittatus) is one of the largest snakes in the world, measuring up to
5.74 meters long and weighing up to 182.8 kilograms. The species is native to southeast Asia and
in its native habitat, consumes a wide array of prey including many different mammal, amphibian,
lizard, snake, bird, and fish species (Snow et al. 2007). In southern Florida, pythons have
established themselves across thousands of square kilometers including all of Everglades National
Park(Boback et al. 2016). Research points to multiple instances of pet release to be the cause of
their introduction to the Evergladesas a foreign species (Snow et al. 2007). Python populations
have significantly increased in both abundance and geographic range in the Everglades since
their introduction, preying on a wide variety of native mammals and birds, posing a serious
problem as an invasive species and apex predator (Dorcas et al. 2012). As an invasive species, the
Burmese python has an immense impact on the native populations of the Everglades. In the last 20
years, observations of mammals in the Everglades have declined by 95% while the number of non
native Burmese pythons in the park has significantly increased (Sovie et al. 2016). Data from game
cameras used in a study by Willson support this observation, showing the spatial pattern of mammal
abundance being inversely correlated with spatial expansion of Burmese pythons in the Everglades
(Willson 2017). Burmese pythons have to been

infuriating; the urge to throw a million daggers, killing those idiotic theories is overwhelming.
What right does she have to choose who should be preferred for a job between two equally skilled

The Epistle Of 1st John
AUTHORSHIP
The author of the Epistle of 1st John is not named in the letter, but church tradition has been strong
in affirming John the Apostle, that disciple whom Jesus loved from (Jn. 21:7), as the author. The
author declares himself as one who we have seen with our eyes...and our hands have handled (1:1)
declaring him an eyewitness to the life and ministry of Jesus. John s authorship was not brought
into question until the twentieth century. The epistles of 2nd and 3rd John add to the controversy
as they are attributed to a person called The elder who s identity is also unknown (see v.1 in 2nd
and 3rd John). The discussion of authorship asks two basic questions in the case of the Johannine
corpus, first, were the books all written by the same author and second who was that author.
Comprehensive studies of both the style and content of the three epistles shows striking similarities
indicative of single authorship. Even the casual reader of the Gospel of John and his First Epistle
will be impressed by the similarity of words and phrases in the two books. John s authorship of
The Revelation has also been debated despite the four claims by John to be the author within the
text its self (see 1:1, 4, 9, 22:8). According to Walvoord, attributing the authorship to John the
Apostle depends on the validity of his being exiled to the island of Patmos, for which historical
evidence is good.
The lack of evidence against Johannine authorship does not stop sceptics from

How Does Phonics Develop Early Reading and How Should...
How does phonics develop early reading and how should phonics be taught?
The most important skill any child can leave primary school with is the ability to read
independently and effectively for meaning. (DFE National Literacy Strategy)
Reading has become an integral part of our lives; within the world we live in today we rely
heavily on information and environmental text. It is important that from an early age Children are
immersed in books everyday. With parents reading short stories to there children daily it will be
inevitable that those children will stand a better chance at becoming stronger fluent readers.

They can also use this technique to pull apart those sounds that would help with spelling of words.
For example hat = h a t. (Rowlingson) Whereas Analytical phonics is the complete opposite as they
will start with a whole word and analyse a part of it. In English there are 44 sounds (Phonemes)
which are written using 26 letters of the alphabet (Browne 2011, p27) There are many more
Graphemes than Phonemes with most phonemes being represented by a number of different
graphemes.
Synthetic phonics can be taught in many ways. The Primary Framework for Literacy (DfES,
2006a) gives a progressive plan on how to teach phonics. I found during my time with
Foundation year 2 s the teacher I was working with concentrated on implementing four new
letters every week as well as recapping what they had learnt from the previous week. I asked her
if it worked well and she certainly seemed to think so. Before she would be doing a new letter a
day, although this would allow her to teach at a good pace she noticed the children were
struggling to remember all the letters and sounds they would learn. Because of this she had to
revise the way she was teaching the phonics to go at a pace the children were comfortable with.
She revised her plan so that every day her children would recap over the letters they had
previously been taught. I noticed that however much planning was in place that it was always best
to go by how the children would cope and over time you will

The Theory Of Personality Psychology
1.We are influenced by our own internal forces, forces of which we are unaware, have feelings
towards, or urges we do not quite understand (Freidman, 2012, p. 17). This is the struggle that
personality psychology tries to understand, how and to what extent the unconscious forces plays a
role in human behavior. It is believed that people are responsible for their own actions. There is a
continuous struggle with personality psychologyand the comprehension of and to what extent
unconscious forces play in human behavior. Meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two
chemical substances; if there is any reaction both are transformed (Carl Jung 1993, p.57). There are
various questions that are asked about the issues in personality psychologysuch as, How important
are social influences on the self, such as parental deprivation or excessive praise? Is the sense of
self merely an inconsequential epiphenomenon or secondary perception arising from other
forces that really matter? What is the core of who we are? A second core issue with the studies
of personality studies is does each person require a unique approach? Gordon Allport argued that
a key aspect of the study of personality must focus on the individual and thus be idiographic
(p.18). To generalize an individual is a complication in itself because the personality of each
person is complex in its own way so how can we generalize? Obtaining an answer to that question
is still a dilemma. Allport complained

Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum
Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our
modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books
including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic
achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point,
however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann
DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says;
Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings
of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the
importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned
by how one is treated in schoolor at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and
body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more
understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however
racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and
teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the
day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a distinction between people,
which constitutes stereotyping. Just

Machines like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional

Prior to this plea for reform, the American federal government played a small role in economy;
their job was to stimulate economic growth, not to regulate it. In their 1896 National Platform, the
Populists called for higher income tax on the more wealthy citizens. The graduated income tax

Analyzing Dna Matches From Identical Twins And Other...
Each person s genome apart from identical twins or other multiple births is distinct because of
variations in allele frequencies which cause chromosomes to have certain genotypes. This indicates
that when the DNA found at a crime location matches a person s, the individual is the culprit of
the crime; however, finalizing a case is not this elementary. The evidence collected from a scene
does not show the person s entire genome. While it can certainly point to suspects whose DNA
matches the samples collected from the scene, it does not secure a definite criminal. Analyzing
DNA requires understanding of a few complex fundamentals, but probability paired with
statistical reasoning provides for a more accurate approach in assessing DNA matches. Humans
each have 23 pairs of chromosomes that have similar sequences since they are analogous in gene
chronology. They are not identical, though, because one chromosome is composed of alleles of
a gene from one parent, and one chromosome is composed of alleles from the other (Dawid and
Thomas). Short tandem repeats, or brief recurring patterns, take place at particular positions in all
DNA sequences, variation occurring due to the differing number of repeats from person to person
(Dawid and Thomas). DNA profiles select certain positions of the human genome and record the
number of short tandem repeats that appear there for each DNA sample being analyzed (which in
a court case would be the suspect s profile and the profile from the

Tay Sachs Disease
Tay Sachs disease is also known as: B Variant GM2 gangliosidosis, GM2 gangliosidosis type 1,
Hex A deficiency, Hexosaminidase A deficiency, Hexosaminidase alpha subunit deficiency
(Variant B), sphingolipidosis, and TSD. The main cause of Tay Sachs is a defective Hex A gene,
and an absence of a significant enzyme known as hexosaminidase. A gene on the fifteenth
chromosome codes for the generation of Hex A, and does not function properly in Tay Sachs
patients. Each person has is intended to have two Hex A genes. Based on inheritance and genetic
patterns, even if one gene is defective, the child will still be healthy. Following the inheritance
pattern, if two healthy, carrier parents have a child, then that child will inherit a defective gene...

Tay Sachs follows an autosomal recessive pattern both copies of the gene possess mutations. Warren
Tay first described it in 1881. Bernard Sachs was the first to describe cellular changes and the
genetics of it, in 1887. Tay described a patient with a cherry red spot on their retina. Sachs
established the connection the familial connections of the disorder, noting that most babies who
had Tay Sachs were of Eastern European, Jewish descent. If symptoms and physical characteristics
suggest that a child may be suffering from Tay Sachs disease, blood tests are used to determine
whether or not the child s body is producing the necessary Hex A enzyme. DNA is extracted from
the sample in an attempt to detect mutations of the Hex A. There is no known cure for Tay Sachs
disease. For treatment and to ease the pain of/reduce some of the side effects, doctors may
prescribe seizure medications. It is highly recommended that Tay Sachs patients begin some form
of Respiratory therapy. This type of therapy is necessary because children who have Tay Sachs

Race, Gender, and Ethnicity in American Law
The Virginia Military Institute was a higher education school in Virginia. It claimed to train the
leaders of the future, or citizen soldiers and impart to its students great discipline; however, it only
enrolled male students. In 1996, the United States government sued the state of Virginia and the
Virginia Military Institute for its male only policy as a violation of the Fourteenth amendment s
Equal Protection Clause. The District Court ruled in the school s favor. The Fourth Circuit
demanded Virginia to reverse this constitutional violation (Van Camp). In response to this
complaint, Virginia proposed a similar program for women: the Virginia Women s Institute for
Leadership. The District Court found that this plan satisfied the equal protection requirement, and
the Fourth Circuit affirmed that although these two institutions would differ in prestige (and the
historical benefit), they would still offer essentially similar educational opportunities. The United
States then appealed to the Supreme Court, and it raised the issue whether this new women s only
academy satisfied the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. The Supreme court ruled,
in a 7 to 1 decision, that Virginia Military Institute s male only policy was unconstitutional. In order
to not violate the Equal Protection clause of the amendment, VMI must make its program available
to women as well. VMI

Analysis Of Gaius Valerius Catullus s The Iliad
The one main difference between the gods and mortals is that mortals can die, making it difficult
for a man to become truly god like. Homer makes no mention of the afterlife in The Iliad,
meaning that the only true way for a mortal to live on is through the remembrance of their life on
earth. Many strive for immortality, but to achieve it, one must obtain Kleos, the glory a man
receives in war. If a hero like Achillesor Hectorwere mentioned to someone today, chances are, the
person would know who the hero was. This is how immortality through Kleos works. When the
poet Gaius Valerius Catullus describes how he wishes for his poems to last for many generations,
even when he has long since passed, he is explaining that, through his poetry,... Show more content

Because of the promise of Kleos, a warrior is willing to risk everything he has, including his life,
to fight in battle. When Hector makes a visit to Troy, he visits his wife and son. His wife tries to
convince him to stay behind and not return, because if he does, he will die in battle. Hector
knows this, but says he is willing to risk his life to obtain the glory he and the rest of Troy deserve
(Fagles, 6. 510 555.) There are 255 named deaths in The Iliad (Laura Jenkinson.) This statistic
shows the extremity of the fighting. Achilles, Diomedes, Hector, and Patroclus are the top
killers in the epic. These are, furthermore, four of the more commonly recognized names when
someone mentions The Iliad today. This correlates with the idea that those who kill more people
are more likely to achieve Kleos and be remembered. As a quantitative way of tracking how
many people a warrior killed on the battle field, he can take the armor from the man he killed and
use it as a trophy. After Patroclus death, an argument arises about who gets his armor, which is
actually Achilles armor. Euphorbus claimed he was the one who actually killed Patroclus so he
deserves the prize, but Menelaus would not have it. Menelaus killed Euphorbus, which resulted in
all the Trojans being scared of facing Menelaus to fight for the armor, with the exception of Hector.
Hector succeeded in getting Patroclus armor, by showing fearlessness and willingness to fight for it

Superiority of Races in Sinclair Lewis Babbitt Essay...
Superiority of Races in Babbit
Hatred, intolerance, prejudice, and narrow mindedness are all terms that can be applied when
describing someone who is a bigot. By these terms George F. Babbitt, the protagonist in Sinclair
Lewis Babbitt, and many of his acquaintances are quite the bigots toward all those that appear
different than he is especially immigrants and minorities in America. The blame should not be
placed squarely on these men s shoulders for possessing such hate filled beliefs, but their opinion of
the matter is generated from the accepted notion, which had been approved of and passed down
through the generations, that immigrants and minorities are far less superior than the native white
men who have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his lecture of the news, he went and to say on how the US should step in and kick those
Bolshevik cusses out indicating that the Russians are not sophisticated enough to handle their own
problems and need the US s assistance (Lewis 21). This incident with the newspaper exemplifies
the fact that Babbitt, while never admitting to it, has views that the white race is far superior to any
other in the US and probably the world for that matter.
Babbitt often expressed his ideas of bigotry to the reader while thinking to himself, but there was
one instance in which the silence could no longer be kept and some newly acquired friends of his
shared their thoughts, which Babbitt himself could most definitely have held to be true. This
occurred on Babbitt s train ride to Maine for his vacation with Paul Riesling away from all the
distractions of city life. On this ride Babbitt met some new colleagues and they were having a great
time discussing business matters and politics. While conversing, a young African American porter
comes in and in a very polite way interrupts their conversation to give them information that they
were in need of knowing. As the porter

The Imagery Tone of a Play:
The Use of Literary Devices Imagery Tone in Krapp s Last Tape
In the play Krapp s Last Tape, there is one protagonist who is described as sitting at a small table,
listening to tapes. Krapp is an impaired and broken down elderly man who spends his time
listening to his younger voice on tapes. He is egotistical and subjective towards his younger self
and critiques the way he acted in a certain place or time. He is lonely, but okay with it as he
would rather focus on things that he has already experienced, rather then engage in new ones. He

Imagery plays a big part in describing the character s appearance and actions in order to show
what a character is like and how they respond to differing situations. It can also shape the story
and reveal to the reader the background of a person, place, or thing. In Krapp s Last Tape, the only
character is given much detail and description in order to start the play at a point where the reader
already knows some information about this elderly man. The literary convention of imagery
provides insight into the character that will lead the play.
Krapp, the main protagonist in Krapp s Last Tape is given a good amount of description, leading
into the beginning of dialogue. His raggedy grey hair, disheveled clothes, and death ridden face
give the reader an image of a character that has lived through many years. It is as if he has given
up on life and is preparing for what is to come. The fact that he is also hard of hearing and has a
cracked voice, seems to have intensified the distaste towards his character. Krapp s descriptive
appearance helps to foreshadow his cynical and confined personality.
Krapp also remains motionless for most of the play. The only actions that do take place are of him
eating a banana in the very beginning and the loading of the three tapes that Krapp focuses on in
the dialogue. This imagery of him loading the tapes and sitting at his table depicts

Stephen King Gothic Elements
Stephen King s The Boogeyman was my favorite piece of gothic literature that we read. I was
trying to figure the story out all the way until the end and had to re read some of it to fully
understand. It was suspenseful, scary, but also had a good story to listen to. The Boogeyman was
full of gloomy settings, monsters, characters in distress, and intense emotions. These 4 things are
just a couple elements that make up gothic literature.
The first element of gothic literature that I noticed in The Boogeyman was the gloomy setting.
The way the man described his house was chilling. He made it sound cold, haunted, and all
around gave the house a bad vibe. He says, I heard a noise in there one night. And then she
screamed. I opened the door real quick the hall light was on and. . . she was sitting up in the crib
crying and. . . something moved. Back in the shadows, by the closet. Something slithered. Here he
is talking about his own daughter s room and how something was in there and he did nothing. I
couldn t believe that, his own child was in distress and he was too full of pride to admit to his wife
that he wanted to protect or baby their child. Her room was described as creepy enough without the
monster. The gloomy setting helps show that this is gothic literature.

Hot Tubs Research Paper
Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury, Coco Chanel (n.d.) once said. Nothing
describes this quote quite like the soothing hot tub. The steaming water, the bubbling frame, or
perhaps just the sheer cost in installation give the hot tub such a luxurious connotation. In the
movies, bliss is often pictured as some bare chested man, wearing gold chains galore, arms
around two bikinied blondes, that is lounging in a massive hot tub. Even on a less grand scale, it
is always quite a mark of rank for a middle class household to have possession of such a comfort as

In fact, I have only experienced the luxury of hot tubs only a few times in my life. Living in
Phoenix, where heat is already the de facto temperature, owning a hot tub is often less than
desirable. Phoenicians do not need a Jacuzzi because we can get wet and toasty just by
perspiring when we walk outside. However, when my family and I travel to another state, there
is sometimes a Jacuzzi at the place we stay. So, while in a more favorable climate than in
Arizona, my family always takes advantage of getting into the spa. Entering a hot tub is always
memorable: one foot in hot to the touch; slide into the pool uncomfortable, at first; but, wait a
moment the coziest sensation there could be. Relaxing in the tub is always a communal
opportunity. My father discusses something with my mother. My older sister adds her two cents
to the conversation, and my brother and I comment when appropriate. It becomes as pleasant a
discourse as if we were having supper around the dinner table. It is always a lovely time. If there
is a swimming pool nearby, my dad likes to jump in it after leaving the Jacuzzi. My mom and my
sister do not understand why, but it is a strangely incredible feeling. The warmth on your body
from the hot tub ecstatically contrasts upon impact with the coolness of the swimming pool as
you jump into it. I feel like it is what happens when molten lava, flowing down a volcano, hits a
cold ocean tide. It is quite a strange sensation, but it is rather exhilarating, as well. Overall, bathing
in hot tubs has been a very rare occurrence in my life. However, I can say, upon recollection, that
there is one word that consistently describes all those experiences: family. Conversing with one
another across the bath is easy due a hot tub s round nature. Chilling, per say, together during a
common relaxing bath brings such an interpersonal sense of fellowship. Concluding, I

In crop production the irrigation water is the most critical factor to enhance its productivity and
also effective use of other non water inputs. There is inefficient use of available resources in
agriculture field in Punjab province and on other hand Punjab is encountering severe shortage of
irrigation water from many decades. It is causing much lower agriculture productivity while Punjab

finding water and nutrient efficient options and most appropriate ways to address various crop

Bubbler irrigation is as well similar to trickle irrigation the difference is only that instead of pipe
in this form of system we use micro sprinklers mounted on small spikes. Only in rain gun irrigation
system water is being pumped at high pressure via piped system and then after sprayed over the

How Do Poets Present Love from a Romantic Perspective in...
Romantic this word holds many different connotations and brings to mind a collection of different
images. It can be fanciful, impractical, unrealistic ; it can be ardent, passionate, fervent ; and it can
be imaginary, fictitious, or fabulous . According to the dictionary, romantic is an adjective
characterized by a preoccupation with love, or by the idealizing of love or one s beloved. In the
three poems I have chosen Let me not to the marriage of true minds by William Shakespeare, La
Belle Dame Sans Merci by John Keats and Piano by D.H. Lawrence, the poets use a variety of
linguistic and literary devices, as well as explore different themes and imagery, to present love from
a romantic perspective. The romance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Shakespeare also employs the themes of time and eternity to glorify love in another one
of his most famous poems Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? . In this sonnet,
the speaker compares a beloved to a summer s day, and says that the beloved s eternal summer
will never fade, that the beloved would be kept alive forever by the poem. Once again,
Shakespeare personifies death, this time as the one who oversees a shade Shakespeare writes that
the beloved will conquer all and will not be swept into this sickly light of Death.
Thirdly, Shakespeare s use of iambic pentameter and rhythm also elevates the subject of love and
presents it from a romantic perspective. The sonnet manages to have a consistent rhythm, yet seem
conversational; it is able to be formal and planned, but casual and spontaneous at the same time.
This is achieved through Shakespeare s ingenious use of rhythm and pacing. The iambic
pentameter becomes very obvious after the third line, Which alters when it alteration finds , thus
creating a consistent pacing. However, the poet uses dramatic exclamations to break up the
rhythm, making the speaker seem more human than a machine an example would be, O no! It is
an ever fixed mark . The metaphors and imagery used all weave a sophisticated sonnet, but the
actual language is very simple, making the sonnet easy to read and the claims well illustrated. The
closing two lines, If this be error

Themes Of Shrek
Vincent Garcia
Lisa Smith
English 101
7 November 2017 Shrek The movie Shrek is a fairytale that you can watch with family. It s a
movie that not only entertains, but it also teaches valuable lessons. Shrek puts the viewers in awe
and gets them excited, so this movie is definitely worth watching! One of the main themes in this
movie is the acceptance of people for who they truly are. In this movie we witness a lot of
prejudice, or just assumptions. People assume that because someone looks a certain way that they
are dangerous. Appearances are deceiving, and this movie shows us exactly that. To begin, you
should all know that Shrek is not your normal fairytale. This movie brings in different characters
with different abilities and characteristics. For example, the main character is Shrek , an ogre
who is feared and seen as a threat by the entire village where he lives. Donkey is a friendly
donkey that has the ability to speak. Fiona is a princess who has been put in a castle with a
dragon and whose only way out is to be saved by a prince. The first setting of the movie is Shrek
s swamp and it starts with a riot of people from the village coming angrily to Shrek s swamp
angrily with torches and pitchforks. They are trying to invade his swamp so they get as many
people as they can to join the riot but their plan does not work out. Shrek ends up scaring
everyone and the people leave him alone for good because they know that they can t take over
his swamp or defeat him. Then, he sees a flyer announcing that fairytale creatures are wanted, but
he disregards the flyer; this will later have him astonished. The next setting is a nearby forest
where an auction is being held. The things being sold are the fairytale creatures; this is where we
are introduced to Donkey. As the auction takes place, Donkey is supposed to be sold because he
has the amazing ability of talking just like humans. He does not want to be sold or used for
entertainment. Therefore, when it is his turn to be sold, he is asked to talk but he doesn t. Lucky
for him Tinker Bell was nearby and some of her pixie dust fell on Donkey and he was able to fly
for a while. He made fun of the guy

The Bombing Of The Uss Maine
February 15th, 1898, the USS Maine was hit with a mine as it sat in the Havana Harbor. There is
large speculation to whether that is the truth or not. Over the years it is still a topic of debate as
of what caused the explosion. Some believe that the Spaniards did it, others believe it was a
clumsy mistake of misplaced ammo, others believe it was a spontaneous coal fire that caught a
box of ammunition on fire. No matter the cause, the loss of the ship and 260 of her crew was
devastating to America at the time and led to strong feelings of dislike towards the Spaniards,
leading to the Spanish American war of 1898. The theories behind the explosion of the USS Maine
is mainly focused around two ideas, there are many angles that can be viewed for the cause of this
disaster and its fueling of the war that will be examined in this paper.
The Spanish American war was a short war in which America won in three months, two weeks and
four days. The fights were extremely unbalanced as America dominated Spain in all of the battles.
At Manila Bay in the Philippines the American fleet, under command of Commodore Dewey,
destroyed the Spanish fleet and took over the Philippines on May 1st, in which total America only
had several wounded soldiers at the end of the battle. In June, American forces landed outside of the
Cuban city of Santiago where their heavy woolen winter uniforms caused them to sweat profusely
in the intense Spanish heat. Amidst the heat they re provisions consisted of

Hayden Wreyford Case
When is it considered appropriate to use class action lawsuits? Anytime a significant amount of
people have been harmed or violated in the same or similar manner by the same individual or
group, it is appropriate to file for class action. The question specifically posed in this case asks if it
is appropriate to use class action lawsuits to challenge automatic phone calls related to elections. In
the case of Hayden Wreyford v. Citizens for Transportation Mobility, plaintiff Hayden is upset that
he received automatic telephone calls from CTM without having expressed any prior consent. The
issue here is that the company has, in the opinion of Mr.Wreyford, violated the Telephone
Consumer Protection Act. This act, in brief, restricts the use of

Free Will
Everything that happens has a cause and every cause has an effect. Effect strictly follows cause
every time.
This is an necessary logical tool for humans in understanding the world around them. Because
humans understand the concept of time it means that they can then understand that some things
always happen after other things. Spotting these patterns allows them to then deliberately cause
certain effects by mimicking or instigating the cause they had previously observed.
If effect did not follow cause reliably each and every time then it would become very difficult to
survive as we learn from repeated exposure to cause and effect what is likely to happen if we do X.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surely the simplest explanation is that cause and effect simply do exist.
Is everything we will ever think or do pre determined? Were all of the great works of creation in art
music and architecture pre determined at the point of creation? Again this argument seems both
unsatisfactory and false.
So how do we resolve this contradiction? One answer lies in the way in which we perceive the
world. There are essentially two worlds in nature. The world that we see: the macro world, the
world of Newtonian physics, and the world of the very, very small: the world of quantum physics.
Quantum physics essentially shows us that far from being totally predictable, the paths of
particles are unknowable, because the act of observing a particle will alter it or its path in some
way. Thus, rather than dealing with absolute positions, directions and speeds quantum physics uses
statistics to predict the position of particles. This means that for a given particle we only have a
probability of where it will be.
Now the behaviour of large numbers of particles is much easier because lots of these elusive
particles acting together and in relation to each other (as in matter) become more predictable. Why?
Imagine a box with a divider such that we can close the box into two identical halves at any time.
Suppose the box is totally empty a perfect vacuum. We then introduce

Sandra Botticelli s Analysis
The unconscious mind seeks to pacify the destructive nature of primitive thoughts as a threat to the
order of society. Throughout history, this repression of primitive instincts are brought to surface in
artworks especially in societies where sex is a taboo subject. This is done through sublimation; the
defense mechanism of re modelling natural impulses and energy externally through socially
acceptable means. In psychoanalysis, theories of Sigmund Freudsupport the concept that sexual
energy can bring satisfaction when transformed. This often requires creativity to help transcend the
battle of the id and superego. This concept is made evidence in the works of great artist and
manifested in Picasso s famous quote sex and art are the same... Show more content on

The expression of artist tended toward an illusionary new word, one of fantasy. (Jones, 2014, p.
2) Paintings of nude females were rampant during that era. To release sexual energies the artist
would have to find a good representation of sex. Since, the books of Greek myths and
philosophers was being rediscovered at that time the artist used this as a tool Venus, the goddess
of love, beauty, and sexual desires was often painted nude in the renaissance (Moss, 1987,
p.174). They painted nude under the disguise of representing knowledge. The Birth of Venus
(1484 1486) by Sandra Botticelli, shows Venus rising from a sea foam. The female artist painter
Venus with her hands covering her sexual organs and used a seashell as a metaphor for vulva.
While, The Sleeping Venus (1510) by Gigione and Venus and Adonis (1586) by Titan show a
more revealed picture of the goddess shown in a more submissive image. In The Sleeping Venus,
Venus is in reclining nude and is seem more as a sex object and in Venus and Adonis clinging
desperately to her love. Their release of energy reveal a more superior complex against women.
These socially acceptable revealed the secrets of the unconscious mind in male artist. Societal norms
were set in the renaissance many by the church and political states to normalize a repressed state of
sexual energy. The commissioning of art and the competitive markets kept artists channeling

Hamlet s Frustration Essay
Hamlet s Frustration
In order to understand Hamlet, we must understand his frustration. This frustration is most clear in
his famous monologue, famously beginning with the line Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I.
This self condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who in a
fiction is able to force his soul to his own conceit. The word soul is an example of metonymy, as
the soul represents the actor s visage, tears, distraction, and voice. Thus Hamlet equates soul with
one s actions, so by his own comparison his soul is weak, as he does not take action against the
king. The second sentence is furthermore a rhetorical question, beginning with, Is it notЕ So clearly

Instead of being pregnant Hamlet instead admits he can say nothing. Ironically, the same word
was used earlier to describe the actor s cause ( for nothing,/for Hecuba ). Hamlet thus feels
completely impotent in his situation, like a slave. He rhetorically asks himself, Am I a coward?
From cowardice, humiliation results, as Hamlet in his mind s eye is being taunted by Claudius,
who is calling him a villain. The word villain is especially ironic, since clearly Claudius is the
villain, the murderer, and also since a villain is often meant to mean the antagonist of a play. Thus
in a sense it is Hamlet who is the antagonist of the play, working against his noble instincts. Then
Hamlet describes what Claudius does to him, metaphorically breaking his pate across, and plucking
out his beard, to blow it in his face.
These images of humiliation make one imagine a slave master belittling his slave or an abusive
parent scolding his child. Then he decides he deserves this humiliation, saying swounds, I should
take it since he is pigeon livered and lack[s] gall. This is in violent contrast to what Hamlet
would do or should have done: fatted all the region kites with the slave s offal, which is what
Hamlet feels Claudius deserves. The word slave is ironic since this is what Hamlet feels he himself
is, indicating that the roles

Everything Stuck To Him
Everything Stuck To Him by Raymond Carver, is a short story that is being told by a father to
his daughter. Inside Carver s short story, he writes a story inside a story, or otherwise known as a
frame story. The frame story consists of a young couple and their struggle while being
inexperienced parents. More so, it shows the reader problems with the parents and their identities,
responsibilities, and maturity. Furthermore, Carver uses many rhetorical devices such as frame
story, characterization, and symbolism as he aims to create an intriguing plot for the reader(s).
Throughout the passage, the author uses symbolism to create a more meaningful and emotional
plot. The frame story is set during a cold spell in November, which signifies a... Show more content

More so, from the start of the story, the reader is not made aware of the two main characters
names. The author refers to the couple as girl and boy which can help the reader infer that they
were not old enough to be called man or woman . Although the names of the parents were not
used, other characters names were said such as Carl, Sally, and Betsy. The boy and girl were
extremely young and inexperienced parents, and there are many ways in which the author
shows that they are not responsible enough to have a child yet. The father s call to Carl was
significant because it showed that he did not realize how crucial it was for him to be there for
his ill daughter instead of hunting. Although he changed his mind about going hunting, it
showed how the father was portrayed as immature for being careless about his daughters well
being. The father had shown interest in the mother s sister Sally by stating, Sally was the girl s
sister. She was striking. I don t know if you ve seen pictures of her. The boy was a little in love
with Sally, just as he was a little in love with Betsy, who was another sister the girl had. The boy
used to say to the girl, If we weren t married, I could go for Sally . By saying this, it was made
clear that the father was yet to become responsible and accept himself as a husband and

Personal Responsibility Reflection
Q1: How have your views on business and personal responsibility changed, if at all, over the course
of the semester?
Throughout the course of this semester, my views on business and personal responsibility changed
drastically. While completing the corporate social responsibility assignment as well as reading
about Bill Strickland s story and the Frontline Poisoned Waters video, I learned many new lessons
on the importance of social responsibility. For starters, the corporate social responsibility project
opened my eyes to all the positive impacts that large companies are making in the world. More
specifically, for my project, I researched Marriott International. Initially, I was unaware of all the
steps they take increase sustainability. Each year they take steps to cut down water waste, carbon
emission and landfill waste. This is a very tall task because they own over six thousand properties. I
was completely unaware that large companies similar to Marriott were concerned about the
environment.
Secondly, while reading Bill Strickland s Make the Impossible Possible I learned many helpful
lessons. One thing that stuck with me was Bill s ambition to chase his dreams. While working
with ceramics, he found something that he truly enjoyed, and he knew that crafting could help
influence others too. Though he grew up in a poor, destructive neighborhood, he didn t let that
stop him. When he finally opened up his first craftsman s guild I knew that he would have the
ability to make it special. After expansion and reassessment, Bill was finally make his dream a
reality by creating the beautiful Manchester Bidwell center. Although this was not an easy process,
he stuck with it and can now be very proud of what he created. Lastly, he shows that people should
never give up on their dreams and that people should give back to their community whenever
possible.
Lastly, the poisoned water video had a large impact on me. That video showed the results of what
happens when companies aren t sustainable and let waste build up. The video showed examples of
the waste accumulating in the Puget Sound as well as how farms are dealing with there waste
problems. The documentary was a little sad because it showed all the mutations

Case Studies on Wrongful Termination Essay
The first article is about a wrongful termination case that occurred in 2008. This case involved and
full service contractor name Paul Blakeslee that worked for a company called; Shaw
Environmental and Infrastructure. Blakeslee was overseeing over 40 representatives dealing with a
$100+ million agreement to uphold offices at Fort Richardson and Fort Wainwright in Alaska.
When Blakeslee discovered that Shaw s Alaska venture supervisor claimed a third of an alternate
privately owned business that was renting about $2 million in gear to Shaw, often without accepting
any bids from competitors, he chose to write Shaw s CEO a letter reporting the activity. According
to the lawsuit, Blakeslee said the project manager found out about the planned... Show more content

In an interview that Blakeslee gave he stated that because of his age, he didn t think he would
see a dime of the money, but thought that his children benefit from the reward. Here s the
statement Blakeslee gave to Anchorage Daily News: I most likely won t get everything,
however I ve got four children. What s more I m 76 and my wife is 81. There s insufficient time
left for me to use it, Blakeslee said. Philanthropy, my children, you know. I m not intrigued by
cash, I was recently intrigued by vindication. I wouldn t have minded in the event that I got a
dollar. It wouldn t have had any effect to me.
I defiantly agree with the verdict, because I don t think it was right for the project manager to
fire Blakeslee for reporting wrongdoing. It doesn t matter who was doing wrong, it s was
Blakeslee responsibility to report it. Now, should the company be responsible and pay for what the
project manager did. Yes, the project manager is acting as an agent for the company, so anything
he does on the job the company can and should be held liable.
This next case is about a police officer that was fired, but it was eventually overturned by an
arbitrator. The police officer then sued the town for Civil Rights violation and wrongful
termination. Police Detective Kimberly Brothers suit was filed Jan. 17 in federal court in
Worcester, naming the town of Millbury, Board of Selectmen Chairman E. Bernard Plante, Special

  • 4. A Classroom Divided By Martin Luther King Jr. A Classroom Divided, is a Classroom United On the day following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., third grade teacher Mrs. Elliot altered her lesson plans surrounding the class unit on discrimination to concretely teach the students by having them experience the unfairness of bigotry firsthand. In 1970, the lesson was filmed for a documentary to demonstrate the implications of stereotypes. The class was split into two groups based on a characteristic of minimal importance in the societal context: eye color, to develop stereotypical behaviors among the students. On Tuesday, the first day of the experiment, the students were deemed the blue eyed students and the brown eyed students. In order, to develop the same type of racism that is generated among whites and colors, Mrs. Elliot started to describe the differences between the two groups. The brown eyed students were deemed less intelligent and inform that they would be allowed five minutes less time for recess, not be allowed to use the drinking fountain and had to wear collars so they could be identified. Additionally, the two groups could not participate in any activities together and to demonstrate their incompetence that was initially dismissed by the blue eyed students she provided examples in which the student hit their little sister or forgot their glasses deeming them forgetful, incompetent and mean. For the second day of the lesson, the roles were reversed and similar stereotypes were appointed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amel Saleh Rhetorical Analysis Amel Saleh s argument that the holiday season is too materialistic, is a well defended statement because she appeals to all three rhetoric appeals, and uses solid evidence to defend her position. Her essay gives insight to how gifting giving has lost its true value, . In Amel Saleh s essay, it states, Despite the fact that the United States holds 4.5 percent of the world s population, we consume 40 percent of the toys. According to Psychcentral.com, a first grader is able to recognize 200 brands and obtains 70 new toys a year. In the essay, it states, When those teenagers become adults they will expect to do little work for a lot in return. They are more likely to suffer personality disorders like narcissism, separation anxiety, paranoia, and attention deficit disorder. The author uses pathos here, because parents naturally care about their child s well being. Parents never want to be the cause of their child s problem, and if there is a problem, they want to find a way to solve it. The quote is also the Ethos of the article, because it shows the credibility. She knows a lot about how the psyche works on individuals, by telling the audience the possible effects that materialism can have on children. The author counters her argument with, Now, i m not saying to refrain from buying gifts for your loved ones... Just don t overindulge and do try to make them meaningful. . This shows how the author understands that gift giving isn t a bad thing, but individuals should do it in moderation, and not forget the true meaning of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Threats Facing The Server, Workstations, And Website Recently, a series of security incidents on the company s website, workstations, and network have been brought to the attention of the company. These incidents include the slow and sluggish behavior of workstations, advertisement pop ups on workstations not accessing the internet, deletion and defacement of the website, and reports by customers of the website becoming unavailable. While the incidents are being remediated, this has necessitated compiling information on potential threats the company s network assets face. In that endeavor, it is recommended to review this list of the current top 5 threats facing the server, workstations, and website. Understanding how these threats potentially impact the company is vital in developing controls and countermeasures to the threats listed and could prevent additional future threats that take advantage of the same vectors. Threats to the Server 1. Buffer Overflow Attack A buffer overflow attack is a threat to the server with serious potential consequences. In a buffer overflow attack overly long input streams are sent to the server. This will cause the server to overflow parts of the servers memory, the goal of the attack will be to execute arbitrary code embedded in the input streams as if it was the servers code. Even if the attack fails, it can cause a process, application, or the server to crash. Upon a successful attack data can be added, destroyed, or an attacker can gain control of the server. • 12. Coca Cola Vs. Pepsi Cola Essay The smooth bold refreshing taste as the cold bubbles fizz on your tongue and head down your throat and into your stomach. Coca Cola is something the average American has drank in his or her lifetime. This has been in part due to the remarkably intelligent advertisements that were made in post 1945 America. While having emphasis on its refreshing cool taste and convenience, these ads created a certain attitude with its audience causing the rise in popularity and sales. During this same time Pepsi was also on the rise competing with Coca Cola. Both Coke and Pepsi used similar strategies but Coca Cola gave itself a slight edge through innovative technique and the use of lifestyle advertising. Coca Cola really did create a refreshing beverage but created an ad campaign using refreshing, exciting, and humorous ads that made your mouth water. Looking at both advertisements as a whole one notices how all of the ads for both companies are paintings of people, which makes people compare themselves to something that is not real. At this time many men and women were greatly affected by these ads. Women particularly would notice the unrealistic waistlines and flawless skin and tone. This caused them to become self conscience about their bodies because they believed those images to be something they were to copy. This technique plays with the psyche of our society, which is clever but very controversial. Established in 1886 and 1889, Coca Cola and Pepsi Co., respectively, were among ... • 13. Cause And Effect Of Burmese Pythons The Burmese python (Python bivittatus) is one of the largest snakes in the world, measuring up to 5.74 meters long and weighing up to 182.8 kilograms. The species is native to southeast Asia and in its native habitat, consumes a wide array of prey including many different mammal, amphibian, lizard, snake, bird, and fish species (Snow et al. 2007). In southern Florida, pythons have established themselves across thousands of square kilometers including all of Everglades National Park(Boback et al. 2016). Research points to multiple instances of pet release to be the cause of their introduction to the Evergladesas a foreign species (Snow et al. 2007). Python populations have significantly increased in both abundance and geographic range in the Everglades since their introduction, preying on a wide variety of native mammals and birds, posing a serious problem as an invasive species and apex predator (Dorcas et al. 2012). As an invasive species, the Burmese python has an immense impact on the native populations of the Everglades. In the last 20 years, observations of mammals in the Everglades have declined by 95% while the number of non native Burmese pythons in the park has significantly increased (Sovie et al. 2016). Data from game cameras used in a study by Willson support this observation, showing the spatial pattern of mammal abundance being inversely correlated with spatial expansion of Burmese pythons in the Everglades (Willson 2017). • 15. The Epistle Of 1st John AUTHORSHIP The author of the Epistle of 1st John is not named in the letter, but church tradition has been strong in affirming John the Apostle, that disciple whom Jesus loved from (Jn. 21:7), as the author. The author declares himself as one who we have seen with our eyes...and our hands have handled (1:1) declaring him an eyewitness to the life and ministry of Jesus. John s authorship was not brought into question until the twentieth century. The epistles of 2nd and 3rd John add to the controversy as they are attributed to a person called The elder who s identity is also unknown (see v.1 in 2nd and 3rd John). The discussion of authorship asks two basic questions in the case of the Johannine corpus, first, were the books all written by the same author and second who was that author. Comprehensive studies of both the style and content of the three epistles shows striking similarities indicative of single authorship. Even the casual reader of the Gospel of John and his First Epistle will be impressed by the similarity of words and phrases in the two books. John s authorship of The Revelation has also been debated despite the four claims by John to be the author within the text its self (see 1:1, 4, 9, 22:8). According to Walvoord, attributing the authorship to John the Apostle depends on the validity of his being exiled to the island of Patmos, for which historical evidence is good. The lack of evidence against Johannine authorship does not stop sceptics from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most important skill any child can leave primary school with is the ability to read independently and effectively for meaning. It is important that from an early age Children are immersed in books everyday. Synthetic phonics can be taught in many ways. The Primary Framework for Literacy (DfES, 2006a) gives a progressive plan on how to teach phonics. I found during my time with Foundation year 2 s the teacher I was working with concentrated on implementing four new letters every week as well as recapping what they had learnt from the previous week. I asked her if it worked well and she certainly seemed to think so. Before she would be doing a new letter a day, although this would allow her to teach at a good pace she noticed the children were struggling to remember all the letters and sounds they would learn. Because of this she had to revise the way she was teaching the phonics to go at a pace the children were comfortable with. She revised her plan so that every day her children would recap over the letters they had previously been taught. I noticed that however much planning was in place that it was always best to go by how the children would cope and over time you will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Theory Of Personality Psychology 1.We are influenced by our own internal forces, forces of which we are unaware, have feelings towards, or urges we do not quite understand (Freidman, 2012, p. 17). This is the struggle that personality psychology tries to understand, how and to what extent the unconscious forces plays a role in human behavior. It is believed that people are responsible for their own actions. There is a continuous struggle with personality psychologyand the comprehension of and to what extent unconscious forces play in human behavior. Meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; if there is any reaction both are transformed (Carl Jung 1993, p.57). There are various questions that are asked about the issues in personality psychologysuch as, How important are social influences on the self, such as parental deprivation or excessive praise? Is the sense of self merely an inconsequential epiphenomenon or secondary perception arising from other forces that really matter? What is the core of who we are? A second core issue with the studies of personality studies is does each person require a unique approach? Gordon Allport argued that a key aspect of the study of personality must focus on the individual and thus be idiographic (p.18). To generalize an individual is a complication in itself because the personality of each person is complex in its own way so how can we generalize? Obtaining an answer to that question is still a dilemma. Allport complained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in schoolor at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a distinction between people, which constitutes stereotyping. Just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Populist Party Thesis The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political Machines like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional Republican and Democratic parties. The people were ready for change, and from this dissatisfaction, the Populist Party was born. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought to transform the federal government in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring about change that Americans wanted, and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s government. The Populists wanted the government to be more actively involved in the economy. Prior to this plea for reform, the American federal government played a small role in economy; their job was to stimulate economic growth, not to regulate it. • 23. Analyzing Dna Matches From Identical Twins And Other... Each person s genome apart from identical twins or other multiple births is distinct because of variations in allele frequencies which cause chromosomes to have certain genotypes. This indicates that when the DNA found at a crime location matches a person s, the individual is the culprit of the crime; however, finalizing a case is not this elementary. The evidence collected from a scene does not show the person s entire genome. While it can certainly point to suspects whose DNA matches the samples collected from the scene, it does not secure a definite criminal. Analyzing DNA requires understanding of a few complex fundamentals, but probability paired with statistical reasoning provides for a more accurate approach in assessing DNA matches. Humans each have 23 pairs of chromosomes that have similar sequences since they are analogous in gene chronology. They are not identical, though, because one chromosome is composed of alleles of a gene from one parent, and one chromosome is composed of alleles from the other (Dawid and Thomas). Short tandem repeats, or brief recurring patterns, take place at particular positions in all DNA sequences, variation occurring due to the differing number of repeats from person to person (Dawid and Thomas). DNA profiles select certain positions of the human genome and record the number of short tandem repeats that appear there for each DNA sample being analyzed (which in a court case would be the suspect s profile and the profile from the ... Race, Gender, And Ethnicity Shivani Amin Professor Trefethen Philosophy 5 4 November 2015 Race, Gender, and Ethnicity in American Law The Virginia Military Institute was a higher education school in Virginia. It claimed to train the leaders of the future, or citizen soldiers and impart to its students great discipline; however, it only enrolled male students. In 1996, the United States government sued the state of Virginia and the Virginia Military Institute for its male only policy as a violation of the Fourteenth amendment s Equal Protection Clause. The District Court ruled in the school s favor. The Fourth Circuit demanded Virginia to reverse this constitutional violation (Van Camp). In response to this complaint, Virginia proposed a similar program for women: the Virginia Women s Institute for Leadership. The District Court found that this plan satisfied the equal protection requirement, and the Fourth Circuit affirmed that although these two institutions would differ in prestige (and the historical benefit), they would still offer essentially similar educational opportunities. The United States then appealed to the Supreme Court, and it raised the issue whether this new women s only academy satisfied the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. The Supreme court ruled, in a 7 to 1 decision, that Virginia Military Institute s male only policy was unconstitutional. • 26. Analysis Of Gaius Valerius Catullus s The Iliad The one main difference between the gods and mortals is that mortals can die, making it difficult for a man to become truly god like. Homer makes no mention of the afterlife in The Iliad, meaning that the only true way for a mortal to live on is through the remembrance of their life on earth. Many strive for immortality, but to achieve it, one must obtain Kleos, the glory a man receives in war. If a hero like Achillesor Hectorwere mentioned to someone today, chances are, the person would know who the hero was. This is how immortality through Kleos works. When the poet Gaius Valerius Catullus describes how he wishes for his poems to last for many generations, even when he has long since passed, he is explaining that, through his poetry,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the promise of Kleos, a warrior is willing to risk everything he has, including his life, to fight in battle. When Hector makes a visit to Troy, he visits his wife and son. His wife tries to convince him to stay behind and not return, because if he does, he will die in battle. Hector knows this, but says he is willing to risk his life to obtain the glory he and the rest of Troy deserve (Fagles, 6. 510 555.) There are 255 named deaths in The Iliad (Laura Jenkinson.) This statistic shows the extremity of the fighting. Achilles, Diomedes, Hector, and Patroclus are the top killers in the epic. These are, furthermore, four of the more commonly recognized names when someone mentions The Iliad today. This correlates with the idea that those who kill more people are more likely to achieve Kleos and be remembered. As a quantitative way of tracking how many people a warrior killed on the battle field, he can take the armor from the man he killed and use it as a trophy. After Patroclus death, an argument arises about who gets his armor, which is actually Achilles armor. Euphorbus claimed he was the one who actually killed Patroclus so he deserves the prize, but Menelaus would not have it. Menelaus killed Euphorbus, which resulted in all the Trojans being scared of facing Menelaus to fight for the armor, with the exception of Hector. The Boogeyman was full of gloomy settings, monsters, characters in distress, and intense emotions. These 4 things are just a couple elements that make up gothic literature. The first element of gothic literature that I noticed in The Boogeyman was the gloomy setting. The way the man described his house was chilling. He made it sound cold, haunted, and all around gave the house a bad vibe. He says, I heard a noise in there one night. And then she screamed. Relaxing in the tub is always a communal opportunity. My father discusses something with my mother. How many people would you say have left your life, even if they were extremely close to you at some point? It s a fact that not all friendships last forever. One thing I ll always ask myself is, why is it that we stay connected with some people but not with others? According to the Social Exchangetheory, people analyze the benefits and probable risks of social relationships. When the risks exceed the rewards, the individual dismisses that relationship. Social exchange theory studies the reciprocal action between two parties by looking at the costs and benefits to each one of them. • 40. How Do Poets Present Love from a Romantic Perspective in... Romantic this word holds many different connotations and brings to mind a collection of different images. It can be fanciful, impractical, unrealistic ; it can be ardent, passionate, fervent ; and it can be imaginary, fictitious, or fabulous . According to the dictionary, romantic is an adjective characterized by a preoccupation with love, or by the idealizing of love or one s beloved. In the three poems I have chosen Let me not to the marriage of true minds by William Shakespeare, La Belle Dame Sans Merci by John Keats and Piano by D.H. Lawrence, the poets use a variety of linguistic and literary devices, as well as explore different themes and imagery, to present love from a romantic perspective. The romance ... Similarly, Shakespeare also employs the themes of time and eternity to glorify love in another one of his most famous poems Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? . In this sonnet, the speaker compares a beloved to a summer s day, and says that the beloved s eternal summer will never fade, that the beloved would be kept alive forever by the poem. Once again, Shakespeare personifies death, this time as the one who oversees a shade Shakespeare writes that the beloved will conquer all and will not be swept into this sickly light of Death. Thirdly, Shakespeare s use of iambic pentameter and rhythm also elevates the subject of love and presents it from a romantic perspective. The sonnet manages to have a consistent rhythm, yet seem conversational; it is able to be formal and planned, but casual and spontaneous at the same time. This is achieved through Shakespeare s ingenious use of rhythm and pacing. The iambic pentameter becomes very obvious after the third line, Which alters when it alteration finds , thus creating a consistent pacing. However, the poet uses dramatic exclamations to break up the rhythm, making the speaker seem more human than a machine an example would be, O no! It is an ever fixed mark . The metaphors and imagery used all weave a sophisticated sonnet, but the actual language is very simple, making the sonnet easy to read and the claims well illustrated. Over the years it is still a topic of debate as of what caused the explosion. Some believe that the Spaniards did it, others believe it was a clumsy mistake of misplaced ammo, others believe it was a spontaneous coal fire that caught a box of ammunition on fire. No matter the cause, the loss of the ship and 260 of her crew was devastating to America at the time and led to strong feelings of dislike towards the Spaniards, leading to the Spanish American war of 1898. The theories behind the explosion of the USS Maine is mainly focused around two ideas, there are many angles that can be viewed for the cause of this disaster and its fueling of the war that will be examined in this paper. The Spanish American war was a short war in which America won in three months, two weeks and four days. The fights were extremely unbalanced as America dominated Spain in all of the battles. At Manila Bay in the Philippines the American fleet, under command of Commodore Dewey, destroyed the Spanish fleet and took over the Philippines on May 1st, in which total America only had several wounded soldiers at the end of the battle. • 46. Free Will Essay examples Free Will Everything that happens has a cause and every cause has an effect. Effect strictly follows cause every time. This is an necessary logical tool for humans in understanding the world around them. Because humans understand the concept of time it means that they can then understand that some things always happen after other things. Spotting these patterns allows them to then deliberately cause certain effects by mimicking or instigating the cause they had previously observed. If effect did not follow cause reliably each and every time then it would become very difficult to survive as we learn from repeated exposure to cause and effect what is likely to happen if we do X. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surely the simplest explanation is that cause and effect simply do exist. Is everything we will ever think or do pre determined? Were all of the great works of creation in art music and architecture pre determined at the point of creation? Again this argument seems both unsatisfactory and false. So how do we resolve this contradiction? One answer lies in the way in which we perceive the world. There are essentially two worlds in nature. The world that we see: the macro world, the world of Newtonian physics, and the world of the very, very small: the world of quantum physics. Quantum physics essentially shows us that far from being totally predictable, the paths of particles are unknowable, because the act of observing a particle will alter it or its path in some way. Thus, rather than dealing with absolute positions, directions and speeds quantum physics uses statistics to predict the position of particles. This means that for a given particle we only have a probability of where it will be. Now the behaviour of large numbers of particles is much easier because lots of these elusive particles acting together and in relation to each other (as in matter) become more predictable. Why? Imagine a box with a divider such that we can close the box into two identical halves at any time. Suppose the box is totally empty a perfect vacuum. We then introduce ... • 47. Sandra Botticelli s Analysis The unconscious mind seeks to pacify the destructive nature of primitive thoughts as a threat to the order of society. Throughout history, this repression of primitive instincts are brought to surface in artworks especially in societies where sex is a taboo subject. This is done through sublimation; the defense mechanism of re modelling natural impulses and energy externally through socially acceptable means. In psychoanalysis, theories of Sigmund Freudsupport the concept that sexual energy can bring satisfaction when transformed. This often requires creativity to help transcend the battle of the id and superego. Since, the books of Greek myths and philosophers was being rediscovered at that time the artist used this as a tool Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and sexual desires was often painted nude in the renaissance (Moss, 1987, p.174). • 48. Hamlet s Frustration Essay Hamlet s Frustration In order to understand Hamlet, we must understand his frustration. This frustration is most clear in his famous monologue, famously beginning with the line Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I. This self condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who in a fiction is able to force his soul to his own conceit. The word soul is an example of metonymy, as the soul represents the actor s visage, tears, distraction, and voice. Thus Hamlet equates soul with one s actions, so by his own comparison his soul is weak, as he does not take action against the king. The second sentence is furthermore a rhetorical question, beginning with, Is it notЕ So clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of being pregnant Hamlet instead admits he can say nothing. Ironically, the same word was used earlier to describe the actor s cause ( for nothing,/for Hecuba ). Hamlet thus feels completely impotent in his situation, like a slave. He rhetorically asks himself, Am I a coward? From cowardice, humiliation results, as Hamlet in his mind s eye is being taunted by Claudius, who is calling him a villain. The word villain is especially ironic, since clearly Claudius is the villain, the murderer, and also since a villain is often meant to mean the antagonist of a play. Thus in a sense it is Hamlet who is the antagonist of the play, working against his noble instincts. Then Hamlet describes what Claudius does to him, metaphorically breaking his pate across, and plucking out his beard, to blow it in his face. These images of humiliation make one imagine a slave master belittling his slave or an abusive parent scolding his child. Then he decides he deserves this humiliation, saying swounds, I should take it since he is pigeon livered and lack[s] gall. This is in violent contrast to what Hamlet would do or should have done: fatted all the region kites with the slave s offal, which is what Hamlet feels Claudius deserves. The boy and girl were extremely young and inexperienced parents, and there are many ways in which the author shows that they are not responsible enough to have a child yet. The father s call to Carl was significant because it showed that he did not realize how crucial it was for him to be there for his ill daughter instead of hunting. The father had shown interest in the mother s sister Sally by stating, Sally was the girl s sister. She was striking. I don t know if you ve seen pictures of her. • 51. Personal Responsibility Reflection Q1: How have your views on business and personal responsibility changed, if at all, over the course of the semester? Throughout the course of this semester, my views on business and personal responsibility changed drastically. While completing the corporate social responsibility assignment as well as reading about Bill Strickland s story and the Frontline Poisoned Waters video, I learned many new lessons on the importance of social responsibility. For starters, the corporate social responsibility project opened my eyes to all the positive impacts that large companies are making in the world. More specifically, for my project, I researched Marriott International. Initially, I was unaware of all the steps they take increase sustainability. Each year they take steps to cut down water waste, carbon emission and landfill waste. This is a very tall task because they own over six thousand properties. I was completely unaware that large companies similar to Marriott were concerned about the environment. Secondly, while reading Bill Strickland s Make the Impossible Possible I learned many helpful lessons. One thing that stuck with me was Bill s ambition to chase his dreams. While working with ceramics, he found something that he truly enjoyed, and he knew that crafting could help influence others too. Though he grew up in a poor, destructive neighborhood, he didn t let that stop him. When he finally opened up his first craftsman s guild I knew that he would have the ability to make it special. After expansion and reassessment, Bill was finally make his dream a reality by creating the beautiful Manchester Bidwell center. Although this was not an easy process, he stuck with it and can now be very proud of what he created. Lastly, he shows that people should never give up on their dreams and that people should give back to their community whenever possible. Lastly, the poisoned water video had a large impact on me. That video showed the results of what happens when companies aren t sustainable and let waste build up. The video showed examples of the waste accumulating in the Puget Sound as well as how farms are dealing with there waste problems. The documentary was a little sad because it showed all the mutations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
