An app is presented that allows computer science students to study for coding interviews on their mobile devices during brief periods of idle time. The app provides coding questions, explanations, and the ability to practice efficiently between activities. User feedback showed a need for expanded explanations and interfaces, which the developers have incorporated through iterative testing and improvements. Analytics from the initial release indicate the hypothesis that students will use their phones for this purpose was correct, with over 80 downloads and many active users in various countries.
Output devices communicate data from computers to users, including many found in mobile phones. Students took photos of output devices around their school, such as in classrooms and design technology rooms, to create a PowerPoint presentation identifying as many varieties as possible. They also generated a Wordle cloud and Doink animation about output devices covered in the lesson.
An app is proposed to help students prepare for coding interviews during spare moments by providing practice problems and explanations. User feedback suggested adding explanations for answers, removing instant feedback for wrong answers to avoid hindering learning, including more question types beyond algorithms and data structures, and dynamically resizing text. The minimum viable product would address these shortcomings to create an efficient study tool for interview preparation that makes use of otherwise wasted time.

Stream SQL eventflow visual programming for real programmers presentationstreambase
Richard Tibbetts, CTO, StreamBase Systems.
StreamSQL EventFlow is one of the most popular languages for Complex Event Processing (CEP), a data management paradigm for real-time applications. Based on a stream-relational data model common to other CEP languages, EventFlow is unique in that it is a visual language. This talk will focus on the design of visual representations for key features including event dispatch, modularity, data parallelism, polymorphism, and dependency injection, and on the co-development of an Eclipse-based IDE along with a new programming language. StreamSQL EventFlow is the primary programming language for the StreamBase Event Processing Platform.
Complex Event Processing platforms are used to process large volumes of event-oriented data in real-time, often in latency-critical applications such as securities trading. Combining clustering, messaging, queuing, data storage, and application logic into one system minimizes latency and gives the programmer control over all aspects of the application.
StreamSQL EventFlow is an executable visual language for building CEP applications, unlike visual environments designed for non-developers, or architecture-focused modeling tools. The talk will cover experiences overcoming prejudice against visual programming languages, and how critical development tools are to that process. We will also discuss some details of the implementation including the compiler, a visual debugger, and diff/merge functionality.
