6.  Angel Wings inhabit in sandy-muddy bottoms of intertidal
areas in coastal waters of Central Negros Occidental
 The shellfish has long siphon which protrudes on the
surface
of the muddy sea bottom and is used by the organism
to catch planktons.
 The shellfish is elongated with cylindrical shell, shaped
like the wings of an angel when opened.
 The bivalves are collected by divers from depths of up to
8 meters.

8.  In the early 90s the angel wings have almost come to
extinction due to over-exploitation and other factors
 Efforts have been done to rehabilitate the resource with
the collaboration of the Provincial Government and the
Local Government Units, assisted by the University of the
Philippines in the Visayas
 Reseeding of stocks were introduced in 3 LGUs
 Production and harvest was very low and no regulatory
measures were done
 Ordinances declaring the Open and Closed Season
of
Diwal Harvest with specific months have been
passed by 3 LGUs
 The project eventually lost tract since no focal person in
the LGU was assigned

9. In January 2005 seven coastal LGU’s in Central Negros decided to form
an alliance and created a council for Coastal Resource Management.
Thus, CENECCORD came into being thru “The Central Negros
Agreement on Coastal Resources Management of 2005”
After passing ordinances delineating municipal water boundaries of the
seven member LGU’s, the next banner project was
“Angel Wing Reseeding in CENECCORD Area”
