About Sarojini Naidu
 Sarojini Naidu was a
freedom fighter and poet
of modern India. She
was born in a Bengali
family on February 13,
1879 at Hyderabad
 She was a major
freedom fighter who
went on becoming the
first Indian woman to be
appointed as the
president of the Indian
National Congress.
Her Famous works
 1905: The Golden
Threshold
 1912: The Bird of
Time: Songs of Life,
Death & the Spring
 1917: The Broken
Wing: Songs of Love,
Death and the Spring
 1916: Muhammad
Jinnah

Flute: Songs of India,

Literary Achievements
 Many of her works were
transformed into songs.
 She drew her inspiration
from nature as well as
surrounding daily life
and her poetry echoed
with the ethos of her
patriotism.
 her collection of poems
like
"Golden Threshold" ,
"The Bird of Time" and
"The Broken Wings“
attracted a huge
readership in both India
and England.
Sarojini Naidu as a Poetess
 Sarojini was a gifted student, she
was expert in Bengali, Urdu, Telugu,
English and Persian.
 Her father wanted her to become a
mathematician or scientist
 But she had an innate interest in poetry.
 About her life ‘we can also say that, ’she
was the creature of the nature
 Edmond Gosse praised her as, “The
most brilliant, the most original, as well
as the most correct of all the natives of
Hindustan who have written in English. ”
Sarojini Naidu plants a tree in Mehrauli,
Delhi.
Inspiration for women
 “Sarojini Naidu inspired the Indian renaissance
movement and had a mission to improve the life
of Indian woman.”
 Sarojini Naidu was the first Indian woman to
become the President of the Indian National
Congress and
 The first woman to become the Governor of Uttar
Pradesh state.
 Great patriot, politician, orator and administrator.

Sarojinidevi Naidu's name is at the top.
 Not only that, but she was truly one of the jewels
of the world.
 Being one of the most famous heroines of the
20th century, her birthday is celebrated as
"Women's Day"
Contribution in Freedom Fighting
 She was joined in the Indian national
movement in1905
 In 1925, Sarojini Naidu presided over
the annual session of Indian National
Congress in Kanpur.
 In 1942, Sarojini Naidu was arrested
during the Quit India Movement and
jailed for few months with Gandhiji.
