The opening titles sequence establishes the dark and mysterious tone of the thriller film Panic Room. Shots of a gloomy industrial city are intercut with the names of the director, writers, and stars appearing prominently amongst the tall buildings. As the music builds tension, the sequence uses panning shots, zooms, and cuts between establishing shots of the city and titles to build anticipation for the film's story of a mother and daughter trapped in their new home.

 Storyline:
Recently divorced Meg Altman and her daughter
Sarah have bought a new home in New York. On
their tour around the mansion, they come across
the panic room. A room so secure, that no one can
get in. When three burglars break in, Meg makes a
move to the panic room. But all her troubles don't
stop there. The criminals know where she is, and
what they require the most in the house is in that
very room.

5. MISE EN SCENE
This title of the Columbia Production company is then the first
things as us the audiences see when watching the opening.
As we can then see from the shot it seems very dark with a
women holding a light so that she can see what is happening
here, adding to that dark unknowing effect.

6. The Setting for the starting of the film can then seem to be set as it all
starts off with an establishing shot of a big industrial city. As we can
see the surroundings of the shot are very tall and big buildings and
skyscrapers. This then can add to this whole effect of being trapped
with no where to go.

in bold letters so it also stands
out in the shot.

7. This shot is then a mid shot showing the lower down of
these tall buildings. Adding to this maze effect as there
seems to be a lot of twists and turns. With loads of
roads to turn down. The light setting is also very grey
and gloomy adding to this mysterious effect.

in the sky also. This then can be showing a storm is coming

stands out in the shot, therefore showing us she must be
very important. One of the main characters if not the main
as she is first one to be named.

10. This is another shot that seems to show another lead actors
name with some superiority as its placed on top of one of these
large buildings. This then can suggest he knows this city very
well like a comparison to a hawk who tend to pray their victims
from on top of buildings.

confusing shot as its very light and uplifting mood but we know
by what the films about that things are about to get a lot worse

 In this opening we hear the music theme by
Howard shore. This piece of music seems to then
get louder then speeds up as it goes along with the
titles in this opening sequence.
 This sort of music then goes with the thriller genre
as it gives us this tense feeling as well as giving us
this edge of our seat feeling as we feel we are
building up to an epic.
