Malaria remains a serious global health issue, infecting over 350 million people annually and killing over 1 million people, most in Africa. It is transmitted through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. While some cases still occur in the United States, transmitted by two mosquito species, the largest burden is in subtropical and tropical areas like Africa where high transmission has led to nearly 3,000 daily deaths. Prevention focuses on reducing mosquito bites through insecticides, bed nets, and antimalarial drugs.
