Introduction

 Since independence from Britain, the temple
  has been controlled by a trust run by the
  descendants of the Travancore royal family.
  After 1947 the kingdom of Travancore
  merged with the princely state of Cochin,
  which eventually became the present-day
  state of Kerala.

 The underground chambers at the Sree
  Padmanabhaswamy Temple complex in
  Kerela have been a safe haven for priceless
  jewels for decades. An estimated value of
  the gems and jewellery found is at Rs 1 lakh
  crore.

 In 3rd January 1750, Maharajah Marthanda
  Varma dedicated the kingdom of Travancore
  to Lord Padmanabha. Marthanda Varma
  vowed that the royal family will rule the state
  on behalf of Lord and he and his descendants
  would "serve" the kingdom as Padmanabha
  Dasa or the Servant of Lord Padmanabha.

 Another interesting finding was two
  coconut shells made of pure gold. One of
  this golden coconut shell was students
  with rare antique stones including
  emeralds and rubies.

 hoard of gold coins and statues of gods and
 goddesses studded with diamonds and other
 precious stones. Outside, small groups of
 armed policemen patrolled the temple

 capital, Trivandrum.

  from a south Indian temple have had to
  halt their search because they cannot
  open the final vault.
 Five vaults full of precious stones, gold
  and silver have already been opened in
  Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in
  Kerala state.

 Meanwhile, security has been stepped up at
  the temple but police have refused to divulge
  exact details because they say it would make
  the treasure more "vulnerable".

  court in Kerala, which ordered the state
  government to take over the temple and its
  assets from the royal trust. It also ordered the
