This document discusses Padlet, a free web-based tool that allows users to create virtual walls for collaboration. Padlet walls can be used by teachers and students to post assignments, provide feedback, display examples, and conduct formative assessments. Students can use Padlet for collaboration, creation, discussion boards, portfolios, notes, and more. Padlet is easy to use, supports multiple devices, and walls can be embedded or exported in different formats. Experts say Padlet encourages participation and engagement by allowing all students to contribute and learn from each other.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. What is the issue at hand?
• Students are being blocked from learning tools due to Internet filtering.
• This prohibits access to many free web-based learning and teaching tools.
• Recently, we learned that Padlet is a Web 2.0 site that has been blocked.
• This is unfortunate because this is an amazingly simple and effective way for
teachers and students to create, collaborate, and demonstrate.
3. What is Padlet?
“Padlet is a virtual wall that allows people to express their thoughts
on a common topic easily. It works like an online sheet of paper
where people can put any content (e.g. images, videos, documents,
text) anywhere on the page, together with anyone, from any device.”

10. What are experts saying about Padlet?
“The challenge of class participation and engagement will remain, so
continuing to seek out new ways to encourage involvement from all students
will be a necessity. Using Padlet in instruction has provided a non-threatening
space for the collection and curation of collaborative classroom work. All
students have the ability to contribute and learn from one another. All voices
can be heard on a graffiti wall, which is an idea that strikes right at the heart of
our profession.” (UKnowledge: “The Writing is on the Wall,” Beth Fuchs)
11. EdTech Review’s Elizabeth Halstead writes
“Nowadays group study is a common activity among students of every level.
Padlet is just like a cork board that allows the students to share their ideas with
each other. It will enable you to share your unique ideas in class or home group
research session with your friends and class fellows. Moreover, you and your
friends can share their researched ideas with everyone by placing it on the
Padlet wall. Once every student uploads their great ideas on the wall, then you
and your friends can discuss about on different ideas together.”
12. According to DIY Media Creation,
• “Padlet provides users with a free web-based “wall” to collaboratively, or
individually, create from a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless as
students add text, image, video, or other web-based resources to their wall
for a variety of purposes, including to demonstrate their learning about a
topic, plan group projects, or engage in pre-writing brainstorming.” (By:
