This document outlines the course outcomes and objectives for a Theory of Machines course. The 5 unit course covers kinematics of mechanisms, gears and gear trains, friction in machine elements, force analysis, and balancing and vibration. On completing the course, students are expected to be able to analyze mechanisms, gears, forces and friction in machines, and calculate balancing masses and vibration properties. The course objectives include applying concepts of displacement, velocity, acceleration and cam mechanisms, analyzing gear trains, friction effects, and force-motion relationships in machines.
