Notes on Accuracy and Reliability:
• Variation in the timing of measurement means that the child’s age at measurement can range from 4.5 to 6.25
years.
• Figures for Local Authorities with small numbers of children measured should be interpreted with care as
these numbers may result in some fluctuation in the percentages from year to year.
• There was a marked increase in the percentage of P1 children with valid height and weight measurements
between 2005/6 (48%) and 2014/15 (92%). This is due to the fact that in all years up until 2011/12, some NHS
health boards were not included. Population estimates are rebased using the 2011 census results.
• In the publication year 2010/11, a new method of deriving SIMD Quintile was utilised. This new method was
applied to all previously published data, and so does not affect the overall interpretation of the data.
• Estimated data completeness for participating Local Authorities in 2014/15 varied between 82% and 106%
with the average of 93%. Data completeness was calculated using the National Records of Scotland (NRS) mid-
year (and small area) population estimates for children aged 5 years.
