system. There used to be 9 planets
but the planet Pluto is now
considered a dwarf planet or
planetoid. (Pluto was downgraded
from a planet in 2006.)

• Mercury is the smallest planet in our
solar system. It is the closest planet to
the Sun. You might think it’s the
hottest planet,but it’s not.

4. Venus
• Because of it’s atmosphere,Venus
is the hottest planet.

• Earth is where we all live.
• It is called the Blue Planet
because we have a lot of water
that can be seen from space.

6. Mars
• Mars’ red color gives it the
nickname ‘‘The Red Planet’’.
• The iron oxide in the soil makes it
red.

• Jupiter is the biggest planet in
our solar system.

• Saturn has rings made of ice

• Uranus is the Sideways Planet.
Scientists think objects may have
crashed into it, tipping it on its
