The document outlines an academic advising tutorial that is divided into 4 parts, with each part containing a presentation on degree requirements and an assessment. Part 4 discusses overall degree requirements, including the 124 cumulative units needed to earn a bachelor's degree, 39 of which must be upper division, and 54 units that must be earned from a 4-year institution. The tutorial concludes with contact information for academic advising and notification that registration clearance will be received within 2 business days of completing the assessments.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Editor's Notes
Welcome to Part Four – CBU’s Overall Degree Requirements.
In the next 2 – 3 minutes, we will discuss some of the overall degree requirements. The first requirement we will discuss is the need to reach 124 cumulative units. The second is the overall upper division requirement of 39 units. And last is the 54 units from a 4 year institution or by exam. Before we begin, let’s briefly revisit the recommended steps to completing your degree on the next slide.
As a reminder, here are the steps to completing your degree:First step - prepare to begin your major by completing all mandated prerequisites and earning at least 30.0 cumulative units. Second step - begin your major rotation of classes. This is the KEY to completing your degree in the most time efficient manner. ^ Last step– After the major is done, then complete any remaining general education and/or overall degree requirements that are necessary to graduate. We’ve already discussed how to complete your G.E. Now I’d like to highlight some important facts you should know about the Overall Degree requirements that you will need to graduate.
To find these Overall Degree Requirements, look at the end of your Degree Guide. You can think of these requirements as the “finishing touches” required to earn your degree. ^Though the list of overall degree requirements may look quite long – don’t despair. Many of them will be met by the time you have completed general education and your major coursework, but it is sensible to begin tracking your progress so you can plan accordingly. Each itemized item on this list should be fully met to post your degree.
As you can see, the first item on the list is to complete at least 124 semester units of credit. This requirement determines whether or not a student will need ELECTIVE UNITS. ^ It is recommended that you plan carefully and register for all required classes first. If a student completes all required coursework, but has earned less than 124 units, he/she will need additional elective units to reach 124 earned units to post the degree. ^ This chart in degree guide indicates how many total units have been completed by you. ^The units from the courses listed here are already included in your total. You are encouraged to check your cumulative units here after each semester to track your progress toward the goal.If/when you need to register for classes to meet elective units, then you may register in classes that you “elect”; in other words, as long as they earn units, then they will to help you reach 124 cumulative units which is needed to graduate. You may “elect” which class/subject to take.
The next important component to the overall requirements states that at least 39.0 upper division units must be earned. ^A section within degree guide will chart your progress toward meeting this upper division requirement. The summary indicates how many upper division units you have completed to date. Please know that in most circumstances, completing the major requirements as listed typically ensures that a student earns 39.0 upper division units. However, if you complete your major and have not completed at least 39 upper division units, additional upper division units may be taken in other academic areas to meet the requirement.
Another overall degree requirement is that students must complete a minimum of 54 units through a 4-year institution or examination (i.e. AP, CLEP, or Dantes). Units toward this requirement may NOT come from a community college. ^ A student needs 124 total units to graduate and must earn 54 units from a 4- year institution; therefore, students can only transfer a maximum of 70 units from community college. It recommended that you keep this requirement in mind if you have transferred or plan to transfer units from community college.
This is the end of the presentation for Part Four of the Advising Tutorial. Please continue to the Part #4 assessment questions.
