Evidence-Based Security: The New Top Five ControlsPriyanka Aash
Most cybersecurity professionals know the CIS Top Five Critical Security Controls. Yet, the evidence that they are effective is slim. Using data on cyber-incidents, researchers looked at the attack paths used by adversaries and determined what controls could have disrupted these attack paths. The result is a new set of critical controls that organizations should implement on a priority basis.
Learning Objectives:
1: Understand evidence-based approach to selecting controls.
2: Understand why the “new top five” controls were selected.
3: Chart a pathway to implementing the new top five controls.

Orchestrate Your Security Defenses to Optimize the Impact of Threat IntelligenceIBM Security
Although the majority of organizations subscribe to threat intelligence feeds to enhance their security decision making, it's difficult to take full advantage of true insights due to the overwhelming amounts of information available. Even with an integrated security operations portfolio to identify and respond to threats, many companies don't take full advantage of the benefits of external context that threat intelligence brings to identify true indicators of compromise. Demo how to detect ransomware with alien vault usm_ggAlienVault
By now you've probably heard about new ransomware threats like CryptoWall, which encrypts your data and demands payment to unlock it. These threats are delivered via malicious email attachments or websites, and once CryptoWall executes and connects to an external command and control server, it starts to encrypt files throughout your network. Therefore, spotting infections quickly can limit the damage.
Don’t fall victim to ransomware!
AlienVault USM uses several built-in security controls working in unison to detect ransomware like CryptoWall, usually as soon as it attempts to connect to the hackers’ command and control server. How does it all work? Join us for a live demo that will show how AlienVault USM detects these threats quickly, saving you valuable clean up time by limiting the damage from the attack.
You'll learn:
How AlienVault USM detects communications with the command and control server
How the behavior is correlated with other signs of trouble to alert you of the threat
Immediate steps you need to take to stop the threat and limit the damage
Cyber Security Beyond 2020 – Will We Learn From Our Mistakes?Raffael Marty
The cyber security industry has spent trillions of dollars to keep external attackers at bay. To what effect? We still don't see an end to the cat and mouse game between attackers and the security industry; zero day attacks, new vulnerabilities, ever increasingly sophisticated attacks, etc. We need a paradigm shift in security. A shift away from traditional threat intelligence and indicators of compromise (IOCs). We need to look at understanding behaviors. Those of devices and those of humans.
What are the security approaches and trends that will make an actual difference in protecting our critical data and intellectual property; not just from external attackers, but also from malicious insiders? We will explore topics from the 'all solving' artificial intelligence to risk-based security. We will look at what is happening within the security industry itself, where startups are putting placing their bets, and how human factors will play an increasingly important role in security, along with all of the potential challenges that will create.

Webinar: Vawtrak v2 the next big Banking TrojanBlueliv
A few years ago we entered a new era of cyber threats.
At the beginning of the Internet, most intrusions and ‘hacks’ were committed for the sole purpose of proving that it was possible, basically because the authors could do it.
At some point though, someone realized that hacking could generate a revenue, there was information that could be stolen and sold, and services that could be provided to make it easier, and thus, the cybercrime industry was born.
Inside TorrentLocker (Cryptolocker) Malware C&C Server Davide Cioccia
CryptoLocker was a ransomware trojan which targeted computers running Microsoft Windows and was first observed by Dell SecureWorks in September 2013. CryptoLocker propagated via infected email attachments, and via an existing botnet; when activated, the malware encrypts certain types of files stored on local and mounted network drives using RSA public-key cryptography, with the private key stored only on the malware's control servers. The malware then displays a message, which offers to decrypt the data if a payment (through either Bitcoin or a pre-paid cash voucher) is made by a stated deadline, and threatened to delete the private key if the deadline passes. If the deadline is not met, the malware offered to decrypt data via an online service provided by the malware's operators, for a significantly higher price in Bitcoin

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
