1. Our Topic – The Recession:
When we discussed the several potential topics to begin with, we were all
we eager to explore different ideas such as a rise in crime, unemployment,
university tuition fees and the recession. It was through research that we
discovered all of these topics linked together. After we weighed out the
advantages and disadvantages of our potential topics, we can to a group
decision to base our documentary on the recession. We believed it would
be a worthwhile and beneficial topic to investigate. We were enthusiast
about our topic and had a range of different ideas that we believed were
worth exploring. In our documentary we aim to highlight and explore how
the recession has impacted young people focusing on major subtopics such
as:
• Rise in university tuition fees
• Rise in youth unemployment figures
• Challenges of progressing onto higher
education
• Rise in young people committing crime
We feel that is there is a potential knock on
effect worth exploring because if people are unemployed it will lead to
public rebellion and as a result there will be a rise in crime which we can
then relate to the Birmingham riots. Since the recession is a current topic
that is affecting a range of people both in the UK and globally we feel that
with such a high profile topic we will be able to receive a variety of
professional opinions on the matter by interviewing individuals with a
professional opinion such as business managers, business employees and
higher education advisers.
Furthermore, we aim to discover how the public focusing predominantly
on our target audience feel about the recession, and how it has effected
them personally focusing on them seeking employment or higher
2. education. In addition, we also aim to discover that if higher education is
not an option for some people what other alternatives are available e.g.
apprenticeships
