WHAT DID WE LEARN RESEARCHING THIS
GENRE?
 The Slasher genre has often got a single killer who
is a person not a creature or monster.
 Most commonly have a deformed face or a mask
on to hide there identity.
CONVENTIONS OF OUR SUBGENRE ARE:
 The Settings: Bear rails (Old Windsor)
 Camera Work: Mixture of handheld and on tripod.
 Editing: Montage editing, Short shot duration.
 Sound: Loud screams, suspense music and sudden
noises.
 Clothing: Dark Clothing for antagonist.
PLOT/STORYLINE
 One evening three teenagers are in a forest.
 Drinking alcohol (typical teenagers).
 Start to hear movement in the forest.
 Antagonist jumps out of bush which causes a chase scene.
 All the teenagers stick together but feel vulnerable.
 Eventually they all split up and run in different directions.
 The teenagers start to hide and become paranoid that the antagonist is
watching them.
 They see flashing lights coming from inside the forest.
WILL WE BE REINFORCING OR CHALLENGING
THE CONVENTIONS? WHY?
 We will be reinforcing the conventions.
 This means that is easier to make a stereotypical
horror genre ots as you’re following from other OTS
which have the same conventions as you.
WE WILL CREATE NARRATIVE ENIGMA’S BY…
 We will not be showing the antagonist’s face so
people will start to question who is this character?
What are they going to do to the protagonist? Why
are they in the forest in the first place?
TYPE OF OTS
 Our OTS is going to a mixture of Linear and Non-
Linear.
 The reasons behind this is because then the OTS
will be easy to follow and the viewers will find it
easier to understand.
WHAT WILL BE OUR CHARACTER TYPES? /
SOCIAL GROUPS?
 We will represent the teenagers to be the
protagonists and to be venerable and inferior in
comparison to the antagonist.
OUR FIRST INSPIRATION FILM IS
 SCREAM
 It was inspirational because it followed the same structure that we are using
in our OTS. Also, we are planning on using similar clothing and setting to this
film.
OUR SECOND INSPIRATIONAL FILM IS
 NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
 It was inspirational because it has similar character types to our OTS and
follows a similar plot of teenagers being followed.
OUR THIRD INSPIRATIONAL FILM IS
 PSYCHO
This film is inspirational because it is similar to the way that our antagonist is
going to kill the protagonist in our film.
OUR USP IS…
We will be reinforcing the conventions of this
subgenre so the audience will trust us that it will have
a good plot, setting and etc.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE WILL BE..
 Our target audience will be teenagers/young adults.
It will be aimed at middle class people who have a
demand for slasher films. Both males and female.
OUR FILM WILL ATTRACT OUR TARGET
AUDIENCE BY…
 The audience want to get a feeling of excitement
from a film so that is why we are going to include a
chase sense which will cause a lot of suspense,
tension and excitement.

WHAT DID WE LEARN RESEARCHING THIS
GENRE?
 It targets a specific phobia for a niche audience.
 It’s best on a low budget, makes it more realistic.
CONVENTIONS OF OUR SUBGENRE ARE:
 The setting: secluded area. Family household.
 Todorov’s theory: Equilibrium, disequilibrium,
acknowledgement, resolution (possibly) and new
equilibrium (possibly).
 Editing: Montage editing.
 Sound: Loud sudden noises
PLOT/STORYLINE
 Teenagers at a friend’s house while his parents are away.
 They start to hear sudden loud noises coming from downstairs and outside
the house.
 They go to check it out where there are two men standing in the kitchen with
a knives.
 They run away from the two men and hide in cupboards and wardrobes
around the house.
 The teenagers think that the men have left when they couldn’t find them, but
they later appear with other weapons.
WILL WE BE REINFORCING OR CHALLENGING
THE CONVENTIONS? WHY?
 We will be reinforcing the conventions.
 This means that is easier to make a stereotypical
horror genre ots as you’re following from other OTS
which have the same conventions as you.
WE WILL CREATE NARRATIVE ENIGMA’S BY…
 Well, firstly the men will be covering their faces so
questions such as Who is it that is attacking these
teenagers? Why is this person attacking the
teenagers? Are they going to make it out the house
without being killed or injured?
TYPE OF OTS
 Our OTS is going to follow a Linear structure.
OUR FIRST INSPIRATIONAL FILM IS
 YOURE NEXT
 This is inspirational because it is a normal family household where
someone is in their house. The use of a knife and blood is similar to
our initial ideas.
OUR SECOND INSPIRATIONAL FILM IS
 THE PURGE
 This is inspirational because it gives us an idea of how to plan our OTS as all
crimes are legal for a day in that film so you can kill anybody you like which is
similar to our idea as teenagers get killed in a friends house.
OUR THIRD INSPIRATIONAL FILM IS
 HOME INVASION
 This film is inspirational as someone breaks into a women’s house and she
kills that person which gives us an idea of how we could be dealing with the
antagonist in our OTS.
OUR USP IS…
 We will be reinforcing the conventions of this
subgenre so the audience will trust us that it will
have a good plot, setting and etc.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE WILL BE..
 Our target audience will be teenagers and young
adults, they will be either middle or higher class
people who love to watch home invasion films.
OUR FILM WILL ATTRACT OUR TARGET
AUDIENCE BY…
 It will be unique as I have never seen films have the
same plot as ours (e.g. parents being away so has
people round) apart from Project X but that is a
different genre. Also, it will be reinforcing the
conventions of this subgenre so viewers will be able
to trust us that it is a good OTS.
