Purpose for being
Ecclesiastes 12:13 13 Let us hear the
conclusion of the whole matter: Fear
God, and keep his commandments: for this is
the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into
judgment, with every secret thing, whether it
be good, or whether it be evil.

Matthew 28:19-20 19 Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I
am with you always, even unto the end of the
world. Amen.

your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost
which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things
work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to
His purpose.

Acts 26:16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet:
for I have appeared unto thee for this
purpose, to make thee a minister and a
witness both of these things which thou hast
seen, and of those things in the which I will
appear unto thee;
Proverbs 16:9 A man's heart deviseth his
way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

Abraham to David are fourteen generations;

the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ

Some will therefore conclude that we have a
minimum of 25,000 – 6,020 = 18,980 years
before Christ returns. This assumes that
Adam’s generation was in fact the 1st
generation.

But we know that our individual time on
Earth is what really matters….
Psalm 39:4-5 Lord, make me to know mine
end, and the measure of my days, what it is:
that I may know how frail I am. 5 Behold, thou
hast made my days as an handbreadth; and
mine age is as nothing before thee: verily
every man at his best state is altogether vanity

not strive with man forever, for he is indeed
flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and
twenty years.”

A quote from a previous sermon:
“…, murmuring or to put it another
way, sowing seeds of discord among the
brethren is listed as the seventh thing that
God hates. Proverbs (6:19).
Let us as a church and as leaders avoid
these pitfalls. Let us also continue to
examine ourselves and refrain from
criticising others”

yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove
your own selves. Know ye not your own

Why are the talents not used in this
church?
James 1:23-24 For if anyone is a hearer
of the word and not a doer, he is like a
man observing his natural face in a
mirror; For he beholdeth himself, and
goeth his way, and straightway
forgetteth what manner of man he was

Why is there a perceived stagnation
in the stream?
•Perhaps there are man made dams
restricting its flow such as poor attitudes,
selfish intentions even jealousy and malice.
•Perhaps there are mountains blocking one’s
view and the stream is in fact gathering pace
and leaving some behind.

some, prophets; and some, evangelists;
and some, pastors and teachers;

the work of the ministry, for the edifying
of the body of Christ:

If you think the unemployment statistics in the
country are bad, take a look at the church.
Twenty percent of its members give eighty
percent of its income, and do eighty percent of
its work. The rest are happy just to be
spectators. It's easy to sit back, criticise and say,
'Why doesn't the church do something about the
problem?' Hold on there: You are the church;
you do something about it! You say, 'But I left my
church because I don't like the way they do
things.'

You didn't leave God's church, which is the body
of Christ, did you? So, instead of talking about
what your church doesn't do, look in the mirror
and ask yourself, 'What am I doing for the Lord?'
Do you know what an Armchair Manager is? It's
someone who analyses the game when it's over,
criticises the players, complains about the
referee's calls, and is content to sit in the
stadium and be a spectator rather than a player.

We have heard a few announcements
today of what this church is engaged in
during the coming weeks.
The question is “Will you and I play our
part and use our talents. This is the
stream that is moving. If you remain in
your Armchair, you will be left behind.
