  2. 2. • CAREFUL translates in the Greek as “ANXIOUS”• ANXIOUS means Extreme uneasiness of the mind• ROOT WORD CARE means• Suffering of MIND• A disquieted state of mixed uncertainty, apprehension and responsibility.• A painful or watchful attention 2

  4. 4. Why do we worry?People worry for many reasons but alsobecause they lack knowledge of the future andfear of the unknown. In our world today,•We worry whether our children will be safe,responsible, well adjusted.•Our children worry whether they are living upto expectations.•Societies and governments worry abouttruancy.•Doctors worry whether the diagnosis of theirpatients is correct and likewise patients worrywhether the treatment given them will enablethem regain health. 4

We always subject ourselves to a constant state of worry over•Finances not enough to meet bills and otherexpenditures•Relationships, Problems at work•Family, Problems with the law•Problems in Church•Interview•Sometimes over issues we have no control overJob 14:1 "Man that is born of a woman is of few days,and full of trouble (Job 14:1)." An old Chinese sayinggoes: "the mind is man’s best friend or his worstenemy."•The word TROUBLE translated from the original Hebrewlanguage is COMMOTION, RESTLESSNESS, DISQUIET,ANGER, FEAR, NOISE and RAGE. 5

We cannot “….Be strong in the Lord and in thepower of His might” if we continually worry.When we worry,• We deny God a hand in our situation• We fail to see God as the GUIDE and sustaining POWER of our DESTINY• We are blind to see God’s way of escape for us• We do not have His fear in as, for His fear is the beginning of wisdom• By our actions we render His word powerless in our lives 6
  7. 7. Proverbs 4:20-22When we worry, we allow ourselves to be pulledapart. Our fears on one side and our hopes anddreams on the other.• WE AFFLICT OURSELVES WITH MENTAL DISTRESS OR AGITATION• As we remain in our Mental Distress, the word of God in us becomes quiet, stifled and in some cases insignificant as WORRY takes centre stage.• By this we encourage anything but the LIFE that was promised by God• Instead of good health, we embrace ill health as a direct result of our actions. 7

PHYSICAL EFFECTS OF WORRY (ANXIETY AND STRESS)•Weakening of the immune system, makingyou more likely to have colds or otherinfections•High blood pressure•Upset stomach, ulcers and acid reflux•Anxiety•Angry outburst•Increased rapid heart- beat and heartpalpitations•Panic attacks•Depression 10
  11. 11. • Mood swings• Low self-esteem• Low self-worth• Cardio-vascular problems• Increase in blood sugar levels• Irritable bowel problems• Backaches• Tension headaches or migraines• Sleep problems• Chronic fatigue syndrome• Respiratory problems and heavy breathing• Worsening of skin conditions, such as eczema 11
