The Cultural Program document describes several events organized by the Confucius Institute (CI-UADY) to celebrate Chinese culture and increase understanding of China. The events include Chinese cultural festivals twice yearly, workshops on arts/traditions, closing ceremonies for student performances, cooking classes, a local camping trip focusing on Chinese language and games, celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival, conferences on Chinese topics, and artistic performances from Chinese universities. The goal is to give the local community opportunities to experience Chinese culture through hands-on activities, presentations, and expert discussions.

1. Our Cultural Program (activities)
Chinese Day
This is CI-UADY major event organized twice a year at the University Headquarters on Sunday
mornings or evenings; during the spring, we celebrate the Spring Festival and during the second
semester, we celebrate Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. CI-UADY offers more than 12 cultural
activities and exhibitions of martial arts, calligraphy, paper cutting, which gives people the
opportunity to experience Chinese culture and have fun.
Workshops
During the regular semester of classes, CI-UADY organized three to four workshops for students to
familiarize them with Chinese Festivals, Chinese Tea Ceremony, Paper Cutting, Calligraphy, Opera
or Lion Dance performance. This helps CI-UADY teachers to prepare students with natural abilities
to different arts and to students for knowing more about Chinese culture.
Closing Ceremonies
During closing ceremonies, organized twice a year, students have the opportunity to share with
their families and friends, the knowledge they have learnt about Chinese language and culture.
Students prepare, with teachers supervision, songs, plays, dances, poems, etc. and they present
them to the public at the University’s theater.

2. Chinese Cooking Classes
Every semester, all introduction courses have one Chinese cooking class where students learnt
how to prepare “jiaozi” and “tang yuan”, the meaning of this dishes and when they are usually
cooked in China.
Local Chinese Camp at Hobonil
During one weekend, generally in March, 25 to 35 students participate at the Local Chinese Camp
at Hobonil, a University facility located two hours away from the capital city; an activity with the
objective of having one whole weekend for practicing Chinese and learning about China. Some of
the activities during the weekend are: Tell a Story in Chinese, Chinese Rally, Chinese twister tong
competition, etc. students are divided into two or three groups for doing the activities and
receiving points for it, at the end, one team is the champion of the camp.

3. Dragon Boat Festival Celebration
On June, CI-UADY staff and students get together at a Chinese Restaurant for learning how to cook
“zongzi” and enjoy its flavor at the end of the class. This activity is usually organized on Saturday
afternoon so most students can go and share with Chinese people the celebration of this
important festival.
Conferences
In order to bring the local community more opportunities for learning about Chinese
contemporary arts, medicine, economics and politics; since 2011, CI-UADY started to organize
visits from experts in China to offer different conferences at the CI-UADY and University Schools.
Some topics have been: sustainable development, the silk route, traditional Chinese medicine,
Asian Market, New Policies from New Chinese Government, Literature and Poetry in China.

4. Visit of Artistic Groups from Chinese Universities
Since 2010, CI-UADY has received visits from different Universities Artistic Groups which offered
two presentations at the city with an important public, up to 400 people each time. Local
community has always been very excited about having the opportunity of enjoy a major show for
free.
