Ossie Davis was an actor and director born in 1917 in Georgia. He attended Howard University and Columbia University. He fought against being cast in stereotypical roles and starred in many films and television shows from the 1950s onward. He was also a stage actor, director, and children's book author. Davis was a dedicated civil rights activist who was friends with icons like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. and helped organize the 1963 March on Washington.
