Presentation of the Work done in Haiti following 12-Jan Earthquake by the OpenStreetMap (OSM) Project & the Humanitarian OSM Team (HOT) at the UNOSAT WorldBank and JRC Damage Assessment Wworkshop - Geneva, 26,27-April 2010.
The Haitian field work of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) aims to support the use of openstreetmap data in Haiti. The team conducted training, surveying, and data imports to improve OSM data and make it more useful for responders. Over 60 people were trained from various organizations. Surveying was done in Jacmel and Leogane. The HOT works to connect humanitarian and open mapping communities to create and share geospatial data during crises.
1) The document proposes an approach called locally stationary geostatistics that relaxes the assumption of strict stationarity by allowing statistics like the mean and variogram to vary locally based on location.
2) Key aspects include defining location-dependent weights to transform sample data, estimate local distributions and statistics, and perform simulation and estimation techniques like kriging under the assumption of local stationarity.
3) Benefits include models that are richer in local features, improved accuracy, and narrower uncertainty, while drawbacks include increased computational and data demands.
This document discusses technology trends from 2010 to 2015. During this period, cloud computing became mainstream and many companies offered customer relationship management (CRM) and supply chain management (SCM) software via the cloud. There was also growth in social networking services (SNS) and collaboration platforms. Many technology companies pursued mergers and acquisitions to expand their portfolios. Looking ahead, the convergence of various technologies will continue to change business models and customer experiences.

Fueling AI with Great Data with Airbyte WebinarZilliz
This talk will focus on how to collect data from a variety of sources, leveraging this data for RAG and other GenAI use cases, and finally charting your course to productionalization.
Webinar: Designing a schema for a Data WarehouseFederico Razzoli
Are you new to data warehouses (DWH)? Do you need to check whether your data warehouse follows the best practices for a good design? In both cases, this webinar is for you.
A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
We will discuss these topics:
- How to gather information about a business;
- Understanding dictionaries and how to identify business entities;
- Dimensions and facts;
- Setting a table granularity;
- Types of facts;
- Types of dimensions;
- Snowflakes and how to avoid them;
- Expanding existing dimensions and facts.

The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.

Osm Training Ht10 Hot English Version
1. Intro to OSM
Open Street Map is a web project to create a free and open map of the entire
world, built entirely from volunteers surveying with GPS, digitizing aerial
imagery, and collecting and liberating existing public sources of geographic
data.
The goals of this training are to:
1 – Familiarize participants with the basics concepts of OSM
2 – Give introduction to field data collection/ground-truthing using GPS,
Walking Papers and Questionnaires
3 – Provide instruction on how to edit data using JOSM
4 – Give a basic understanding of the OSM data model
5 – Provide generic instruction on how to use OSM data in GIS map production
(ESRI & QGIS) – GISers only-
2. GPS and Walking Papers
Combined, GPS and Walking Papers
can be used for rapid surveying and
ground truthing.
Walking Papers allow users to print
out small sections of the OSM map. In
the field, these paper maps can be
used to draw new features, annotate
existing data, and take notes that will
help with the import of GPS data.
Icons in each of the corners and a
unique code for each Walking Paper
let users scan the paper and upload to
OSM so the notes can be viewed in an
editing environment.

Very basic GPS devices will work.
We're only looking at collecting points
and tracks.

4. JOSM and Potlach
JOSM and Potlach are the two main
editors used for creating and
modifying OSM data.
Potlach is a simple web interface,
accessible to users on the
OpenStreetMap website.
JOSM is a more advanced tool, is a
Java application so doesn't require
consistent internet access and can run
on any operating system.

7. GPS Babel
To get data off your GPS and into a format usable by JOSM, we use a free
software called GPS Babel. Connect your GPS device to your computer using
the USB cable, select Device and Garmin serial/USB protocol as an input format.
Then choose GPX/XML as your output format, name your file, and hit “let's go.”
GPS Babel can also convert GPS data KML, CSV and other formats.
8. Starting JOSM and Adding Data
Starting JOSM with additional memory (Optional):
Command prompt for JOSM installed on the desktop:
C:>WindowsSystem32java.exe -jar -Xmx512M "C:UsersuserDesktopjosm-tested.jar"
Adding Your GPX data:
In JOSM, go to “File->Open” and select the GPX file you just created.
Adding Existing OSM data:
You'll want to start with the data already exists in OSM and have your editing strategy be
based on adding new features or modifying those that are already there.
To download data directly from the server, zoom to the bounds of your GPS data in the
main browser, then go to “File->Download from OSM.” Your extents will be pre-
highlighted in pink. Click download, making sure the “Download as new layer” box is
checked.
If you already have OSM data at hand that you want to use, you can open it as you did
with the GPX data already and it will appear as a new layer.
9. Walking Papers
When you've collected your Walking Papers data, you need to scan it and save the
resulting image on your computer. Go to: http://walking-papers.org/upload.php and
follow the instructions there. Once uploaded, the site will give you a unique URL for
your scan.
Go to JOSM, and select Walking Papers from the menu, choose “Scanned Map,”
enter the URL of your scan and press “OK.”
You will now see your scan alongside the existing OSM data and your GPS tracks.
11. Relevant tags/features
OSM attribute data is stored in key:value pairs. The tagging system is completely
flexible, new keys and possible values can be added ad hoc. But in order to ensure
compatibility between data, it's best practice to use existing tags where possible.
The full list of recommended tags can be found on the OSM wiki at:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Map_Features
Details on the Humanitarian Data Model and the JOSM presets we've built to
accompany it can be found at:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Humanitarian_OSM_Tags/Humanitarian_Data_Model
For the purposes of today's session, here are some suggested tags to use when adding
your data:
Key Possible Values
Area yes
Building container, tent, hangar, tent, yes
Amenity bathroom, parking lot, fountain, school, health clinic
Highway pedestrian, service, secondary
Surface gravel, dirt, concrete, paved, unpaved
