What is the Open Science Grid (OSG)?
• OSG brings together independently owned and operated
computing and storage resources from campuses and research
communities into a common, shared grid infrastructure
• OSG offers participating research communities – Virtual
Organizations (VOs) – access to more resources than they could
afford individually
• OSG is a consortium of software – the Virtual Data Toolkit (VDT)
– service and resource providers and researchers, who together
build and operate the OSG project
• OSG is funded by DOE and NSF and provides staff for
managing various aspects of the project

OSG Mission
• Promote discovery and collaboration in data-intensive research
by providing services that integrate distributed and shared
resources to support computation at all scales
• Provide training through hands-on workshops and focused
engagement with the community, helping new users to run
applications on the infrastructure and resource owners to make
