101	INNOVATIONS	IN	SCHOLARLY
COMMUNICATIONS
Open	Scholarship	is	a	useful	concept	in	the	Arts,	Humanities,
Social	Sciences.
Scholars	are	willing	and	many	are	actively	looking	for	ways	to
open	up	their	research.	For	example,	to	communicate	and
engage	with	a	broader	community,	sometimes	using	other	tools
to	translate	it	for	a	wider	audience.
Open	Scholarship	gives	us	a	broader	array	of	entry	points	into
open.
Understanding	the	research	lifecycles	and	workflows	of	scholars
in	all	fields	is	essential	to	this	broader	conversation	of	open
scholarship,	and	to	related	discourses	such	as	assessment.
Structure	of	Workshop
12:20	- 13:00	PART	I
Researchers	in	each	workgroup	share	stories	of
workflows.
Select	one	researcher’s	workflow	in	each	group.
Begin	visualizing	this	using	various	tools
(poster	paper,	pens,	post-its)
Consider	how	access	to	open	materials,	etc could	be
helpful	at	different	stages.
Consider	how	stages	could	be	opened	up.
13:00	– 13:15	BREAK
13:15	– 13:30	PART	2
“Poster”	Session
One	person	remain	with	visualization,	others	visit	other
groups’	images.
AIMS:
1) To	create	a	visualization	of	a
research	lifecycle	following	one
project.
2) If	time,	to	begin	identifying
where	the	lifecycle	can	be
opened	up.

Some	questions	that	might	be	helpful	to	think
about
• How	could	the	researcher’s	own	work	be	enriched	with	access	to
freely	available	tools,	information,	others’	outputs,	etc.?
• Are	you	able	to	access	what	you	need	at	different	stages	easily?
• If	you	have	access,	what	kind	of	access	do	you	have?
• How	are	you	able	to	use	the	materials,	tools,	data,	etc.	that	you	find?
Are	there	roadblocks?
• What	does	openness	mean	in	SSH?	Sharing,	collaboration,
awareness-raising,	impact	beyond	OA?
Thank	you	for	joining	us!
