University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is a charter school located in Rochester, NY that was founded in 2010 serving grades 7-8. It has experienced rapid enrollment growth from 60 students in 2010 to 210 students in 2013. The school aims to ensure students graduate with knowledge and skills through an engaging learning environment and individualized learning. It uses a "Crew" system as a substitution for homeroom for character development and communication. However, the school dropped its original Expeditionary Learning curriculum and implemented an in-house "Squad" system which failed due to a lack of clear vision, staff buy-in, communication, and monitoring during the change process.
