Medical Requirements:

 Any willing person
 HIV and Active Cancer patient cannot donate
Organ Donation
Types of donation:
 Living organ donation
(When the person making the donation is alive)
 Decease Organ Donation
(After the donor dies)
Organ Donation
Living Organ Donation
 Donating an organ or part of an organ for transplantation to a
patient during life.
 Mostly first degree relatives donate
 They can donate
 blood
 One kidney
 Portion of pancreas
 Part of liver
Organ Donation
Deceased Organ donation
 Taking organ from a person who has just died but it is only possible when
that person registered his /her wish for donation or first degree relative
give permission
 There are two types of death
 Cardiac death
 Brain death
Organ Donation
Cardiac Death:
 Heart lose his functionality. Respiratory function & circulatory function disable.
 if the person is on a ventilator and if it is medically clear that the person cannot
survive, then the family can consider Organ donation for certain vital organs. Such
donations typically take place in the operating room. Because after this death
blood become clot in 3 to 15 minutes so we have to remove organ as early as
possible
Organ Donation
Brain Death
 Brain death is the irreversible and permanent end of all brain functions.
 Such persons are kept on artificial support (ventilators) to maintain
oxygenation of organs so that the organs are in healthy condition until
they are removed
Organ Donation
Myths:
 Organ donation is against my religion.
Fact: All major religions support organ donation as a selfless.
In Islam:
“Whosoever saves a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all
mankind.”
Organ Donation
Myths:
 I am too old to donate organs.
Fact: People of all ages can donate organs and tissues. Physical
condition, not age, is the important factor in determining if
organs can be used.
Organ Donation
Why should we donate?
 In Pakistan, an estimated 50,000 people die each year due to
end stage organ failure.
 Another person is added to the waiting list every 10 minutes
Organ Donation
If every one in class become a donor then potentially
we can save up to 1000 lives!
That’s why we should donate
Organ Donation
Inspiration
ex President Asif Ali Zardari has become the
first President to donate all his body organs after
signing a bill to enact a law to regulate transplant
of human organs in the country.
