The document proposes a finger gesture-based rating system using computer vision and cloud computing. The system would allow customers to provide ratings for products and services by holding up a corresponding number of fingers, from 1 to 5. Computer vision techniques would recognize the gesture and record the rating in a collective database in the cloud. This universal database could then provide aggregated rating data across multiple companies for improved analytics. The system aims to provide a more efficient and engaging way for customers to submit feedback compared to traditional rating methods.

IRJET- User Preferences and Similarity EstimationIRJET Journal
This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a new method for estimating the similarity between items based on user preferences. The proposed method considers user preferences when calculating similarity, unlike existing methods that only look at item attributes. It uses an "inverse top-k query" that returns the users for whom an item is in their top-k set, rather than the top k items for a user. The Jaccard coefficient is used to calculate similarity between items based on the results of inverse top-k queries. The proposed method aims to provide more personalized recommendations by more closely matching items to individual user preferences.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.

Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.

4. Research Findings: Metering Implementations in Similar SaaS Tools
SaaS tools similar to ABC Org use a variety of metering implementations, including per-user pricing, consumption-
based pricing, and tiered pricing.
• Per-user pricing is the simplest model, where customers are billed a fixed amount per user.
• Consumption-based pricing is more complex, where customers are billed based on their actual usage of the
tool.
• Tiered pricing is a hybrid model, where customers are offered a choice of pricing plans based on their level of
usage.
ABC Org uses a tiered pricing model, where customers are offered three pricing plans based on the number of
users and the amount of data stored.
Metering implementations
Data sources
The data sources used for metering in SaaS tools similar to ABC Org also vary. Some tools use only server-side
data,
while others also use client-side data. Some tools also use data from third-party sources, such as usage data
from cloud providers.
For example, ABC Org uses a combination of server-side data and client-side data to track user activity.

a more comprehensive understanding of
resource usage patterns throughout the
day.
Monthly: This aggregation interval
provides a high-level overview of resource
consumption and facilitates accurate
billing cycles
Benefits of Granularity and
Aggregation
The metering framework captures usage
data at different levels of granularity,
depending on the needs of the customer
and the billing requirements.
The following levels of granularity are
supported:
Per user: This level of granularity
captures usage data for individual users,
providing insights into user-specific
activity and resource consumption.
Per organization: This level of
granularity captures usage data for
organizations, allowing analysis of
usage patterns and resource allocation
across different organizations.
Per feature: This level of granularity
captures usage data for specific
features or modules, enabling a detailed
understanding of feature adoption and
usage
Granularity and Aggregation
The ability to capture usage data at
different levels of granularity and
aggregate it over time offers a number of
benefits, including:
Accuracy: The metering framework can
accurately bill customers based on their
actual usage of resources.
Transparency: Customers can view their
usage data at different levels of
granularity, which provides transparency
into their usage patterns.
Fairness: Customers are billed fairly,
regardless of their usage patterns.
10. Usage Notifications and Alerts
Importance of Alerts for
Thresholds
Visibility into Usage
Patterns and Trends
Conclusion

about their usage levels and to help them avoid
unexpected charges or service disruptions.
The metering framework also provides detailed
usage analytics, showcasing usage patterns,
trends, and historical data.
By implementing usage notifications and alerts, users
are kept informed about their usage levels and
empowered to manage their resources effectively.
Usage Notifications and Alerts
The metering framework provides a number of mechanisms to notify users about their usage levels and to help them manage their resources effectively. These mechanisms
include:
Real-time usage tracking: The metering framework continuously monitors user activity and resource consumption in real time. This allows users to see how their usage is
changing over time and to take action if they are nearing or exceeding their usage limits.
Usage dashboards: Users have access to personalized dashboards that display their usage metrics, providing visibility into their current usage levels. These dashboards can be
customized to show the specific metrics that are most important to each user.
Automated email notifications: Users receive automated email notifications periodically, summarizing their usage and highlighting important insights. These notifications can
help users stay on top of their usage and to identify any potential problems early on.
Predefined usage thresholds: The system defines specific thresholds for usage metrics (e.g., data volume, API calls) that, when reached or exceeded, trigger alerts. These
alerts can be sent via email, in-app notifications, or SMS.
