The Galaxy Alpha marks a departure from Samsung’s usual design philosophy, and rocks top-notch specs too. Features like the built-in fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor we saw on the Galaxy S5 have made their way to the Alpha too, but sadly, the latter isn’t impervious to water like its more accomplished sibling. With the metal frame as its mainstay, we wanted to know whether the Galaxy Alpha can impress us overall as a compelling option and prove its mettle as a worthy daily driver. And that’s exactly what we hope to accomplish with this review.

The Apple iPhone is one of the most iconic gadgets ever, and so far, the brand has always focussed on the device’s one-handed utility. Giving in to the market dynamics and the ever-increasing demand from its loyal fan-following, Apple has now gone the phablet way… and the result is the iPhone 6 Plus. The Oppo R5 comes with a nice set of features offering great functionality, above all the build quality offered by the device is amazing, and there are barely any flaws with the design except the missing 3.5mm audio connector, which takes away some part of the functionality. If you are looking for a smartphone with a powerful snapper, the R5 is certainly not the one and as its closest competition the Yu Yureka, beats the R5 in every domain and mostly in the price by being available at one third of its cost. But, if you are looking for a well built device which you can flaunt, the R5 is there for you, however you would be paying heavily for looks.

The mobile industry in India seems to be growing prodigiously. That’s evident from our half-yearly mobile phone landscape reports as well, since the number of phones being launched in the country has increased year-on-year. Up until now that is. The year 2016, so far, seems to be defying the trend as the number of launches declined for the first time in three years. Not just that, the first half of the year was quite different as compared to previous years, be it in terms of shifting consumer preferences for price segments, or Chinese brands giving stiff competition to indigenous and established multinational manufacturers.
So, here's a comprehensive look at the state of affairs in the Indian mobile phone industry in H1 2016.
There’s little doubt that the mobile industry in India is growing at an unprecedented pace. But to put things in perspective, the real question is how fast it’s growing, especially when compared to the previous years? Well, to answer that question we’ve been bringing out comprehensive reports on the state of mobile phone market in India since the past couple of years, and now is time to take a closer look at the happenings in the sector in the year 2015. So, without further ado, let’s see what defined the smartphone market last year.
With so many launches and new brands entering the rapidly-growing phone market in the subcontinent, it's important to take a step back and get a macroscopic look at the state of the Indian phone market. Our past reports have revealed some interesting insights about the launches, spec trends as well as consumers' ever-changing interests. The first six months of 2015 revealed many surprises as well, and our report takes a comprehensive look at those trends.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

•Handling is good with a curved rear and matte texture on the rear
•Can be used by a single hand, but only for a few tasks
4. Its 5-inch display is your window to the world
•The 5-inch display bears a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels
•Produces sharp, vibrant text and images
•However, it’s quite reflective… making it difficult to view the screen outdoors
•Glove mode can be enabled, allowing you to use the device even while wearing gloves
5. A decent snapper…
•Equipped with a 13- megapixel camera at the rear, alongside the LED flash
•The custom camera app offers numerous modes and image manipulation options
•The Ultra HD mode allows you to capture images in 24- megapixel resolution by stitching multiple images together
6. … with an interesting ‘twist’
•The USP of the device is that the camera can rotate up to 206 degrees giving you the ability to capture from any angle and take high-quality selfies
•Quality-wise, the images looks really sharp and detailed
•The HDR mode wasn’t all that impressive, and the Ultra HD mode hardly adds any advantages over the usual auto mode
7. Fifty shades of ColorOS
•Runs the dated Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
•Like its Chinese counterparts, offers a customised UI called ColorOS
•While the UI is not as loaded as, say, Xiaomi’s MIUI, it does bring in quite a few features
•The homescreen has a dedicated photo and music space
8. Packs in a number of innovative features
•Supports gestures even when the display is off, giving you the ability to wake up the device or quickly access an app
•The preinstalled Swype keyboard offers fast typing with swipe-to-type gestures
•The recent apps menu gives you the option to lock a few apps before cleaning all of them with one click
•The Themes app offer downloadable themes to change the look and feel
9. Slightly low on performance, but makes up in the multitasking aspect
•Draws power from a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset clocked at 1.6GHz
•Results in decent performance with the Adreno 305 GPU, but there are noticeable jerks while playing heavy games
•The processor is accompanied by 2GB of RAM, making sure that you don’t face any issues while multitasking
10. Offers limited amount of storage
•Supplied with 16GB of flash storage
•After accounting for the space taken by the OS, around 11.5GB is available to the user
•Sadly, you can’t increase it further since the phone lacks an expansion slot
•You can however, make use of USB OTG capabilities to plug in your flash drive
11. Can’t maintain distance from the charger for long
•Sips juice from a 2,140mAh battery
•Hardly manages to last even a single working day
•It played a 720p video continuously for seven hours and 30 minutes
•The Battery Saver feature conserves the battery, while Simple Desktop disables most advanced features and give access to the basic stuff only

Pricing and verdict
“There's nothing really wrong with the Oppo N1 Mini per se – it comes with good display, a capable and innovative camera and a decent configuration. However, the same specs are available at far lower price points in other devices. Even if you fancy a swivel camera, the Gionee Elife E7 Mini is a good option. Because of high pricing, it’s difficult to recommend the N1 Mini ”
