This document recaps the OpenStack Summit held in Berlin in 2018. Over 2,700 attendees from 63 countries participated in the summit, more than 50% coming from outside Germany. The Rocky release of OpenStack was highlighted, and the 2018 user survey provided insights into typical OpenStack deployments, which most commonly use KVM as the hypervisor, Ceph for block storage, SQL for identity, CentOS for the operating system, and Ansible for configuration management.

SC4 Hangout - Luigi Selmi, Transport pilot architecture

The document describes the SC4 Pilot Online Hangout which will test a new big data system for collecting and processing multisource transport data in Thessaloniki, Greece. The pilot will use Kafka and Flink to ingest taxi and Bluetooth data, integrate the data, process it using R and PostGIS, store it in Elasticsearch, and present it in Kibana. The components are containerized and the pilot will test deploying them on a 3 node Docker Swarm for fault tolerance and scalability. Current work involves setting up the swarm and future work will test the system.

In the age of darkness light plays an important role in terms of keeping the human race motivated for the good. Projection mapping has been around for some time now. There is hardware, software and possibilities might seem limitless. How about the aspiring artist or an institution with limited funding for anything, anyone who wants to play with projection mapping? One does not want to leave her computer in a space for a month or more. An institution might not have resources to purchase hardware and software. OfxPiMapper is an addon for the openFrameworks creative coding toolkit that lets one use the Raspberry Pi mini-computer for serious projection mapping projects. It is open source and available on GitHub. It can not only map videos and images, but can map anything openFrameworks is capable of, which includes data driven visuals, interactive motion graphics or generative 3D scenes. KubeCon + CloudNativeCon China 2018 was held in Shanghai from November 13-15 with 2,500 attendees. There was a focus on cloud native projects from China and growth in certified Kubernetes and cloud native partners in China. A Service Mesh Enterprise Summit was co-hosted by Rancher Labs and Huawei in November 2018 to discuss enterprise adoption of Kubernetes and service meshes.
