minutes of the opening scene?
 First thing I notice about the opening scene
is the protagonist, however this isn’t the
first thing that pops up on the screen. The
first thing the audience see is the logo
(name of the film production) this
highlights the importance of identifying
the brand to the viewers, this is one of the
conventions of an opening sequence.
 The protagonist is the main character,
Anne Hathaway the shot is a close-up of
her brushing her teeth. This is the first
scene, Anne is a famous, well-known
character therefor using her face at first is
very powerful because it makes the
audience want to continue watching.

3.  As the audience we can instantly identify the theme of this
movie, this is due to the setting of the scene (setting is also
another convention). The theme of this movie is obviously a
chick flick and I say this with such confidence due to the
evidence shown in the opening sequence. We see that the
setting is set in new york (we know this due to the landmarks
like the Brooklyn bridge and yellow taxi’s), as the audience we
directly link that to drama because this is how the media
portrays new york. Also another convention used is the titles
of the characters and the name of the movie.

the audience we can instantly link
all these things to a chick flick
movie. This is how the genre is
represented in the opening sequence
of the film. As the audience we
notice these little things and because
this is how girls are represented in
the media, we can tell easily.

5.  We meet our protagonist in the first minute
of the film, Anne Hathaway is the first
character we see on the screen. Therefor we
can instantly realize that the movie is about
her, also she is a very well-known actor. The
rest of the girls are not as known as her.
 As the audience we begin to realize that
Anne is different than the rest of the girls,
and this is due to the way she’s been
represented. All the girls spend time doing
their makeup and picking out their heels
and outfits. However, Anne just puts on the
first thing she sees. This tells us that Anne is
not as feminine as the rest of the girls. She
stands out and isn’t a typical girl, she may
be a bit less caring about her appearance.
 Also we can see that Anne is different than
the rest of the girls because they all took
private taxi’s or drivers, however Anne took
the train. This tells us as the audience that
she cant afford much things like the girls
(like expensive shoes)

6. Sound
 while Anne Hathaway (protagonist) is walking towards the building, we
can hear a song in the background which chants “suddenly I see, this is
who I wanna be…” this tells us as the audience that maybe Anne doesn’t
like where she is right now and wants to change, perhaps become like the
girls that we saw getting ready to go to work. May be she wants to be more
feminin like them and wants to have a proper payed job. We can tell that
she doesnt seem wealthy, she probably wants to change that. She’s looking
as the buildings with such fear and anxiety, “suddenly i see this is where i
wanna be...” the audience start to assume that maybe she’s going for an
interview because her boyfriend earlier said “goodluck”.
