The opening scene establishes Detective Somerset as a lonely, organized man who lives alone in a quiet apartment. He meticulously gets ready for work each day. When he arrives at a crime scene, he remains calm and treats his work dispassionately. His colleagues seem to dislike him and he is rejected. Detective Mills then arrives, confident but quick to anger. Their different personalities will cause challenges as they work together on the high murder rate in their town. Loneliness and murder are themes introduced. The title sequence, showing disturbing murder images, further sets up the film as focused on serial killing and murder cases.

SCHEME

high-powered banking executive, the player must decide whether to commit murder or try to identify the caller.
LOGLINE
LAYER CAKE meets TAKEN, THE SIX is a fast paced action thriller that will keep audiences guessing. It is a strong
action movie with the benefit of a well crafted concept. It is a character piece and the protagonist is well-developed,
likable and believable. Weak points include a few distracting tangents in the plot and an overly simplistic resolution.
Would be a great opportunity for any action director to show some depth of character.

EVALUATION
TOM WOODS was a successful rugby player until he crashed his sports car, inuring himself and killing a bystander.
Now he and his longtime girlfriend SOPHIE are looking at houses together. Tom admits that he does not feel ready to
move in with her. She dumps him and stomps off. Walking home Tom is approached by ZAC, a teenager new to the
neighborhood. Zac asks Tom to put up a neighborhood watch sticker, Tom blows him off.
At he investment bank where Tom works he receives a strange email. He opens it and it shows him a grainy black
and white image, then crashes his computer. Tom goes to the address shown in the picture. His cell phone is called
by a mysterious man telling him he will "be in touch." Later, at work, his computer starts flashing, "Kill Lunt" then dies.
When he calls I.T. incriminating information is found on Tom's computer. Though Tom swears to know nothing of this
he is fired.
The mysterious caller calls again, telling him to kill a man named Lunt or Sophie will die. Tom notices a man following
him wherever he goes. He chases down the man and manages to get his dropped cell phone. Tom rightfully guesses
that his new neighbor Zac is good with computers. Zac helps Tom to hack into the locked cell phone which leads
them to one of Tom's investment bank's competitors. Zac tails Lunt, and witnesses him kill a man.
A woman calls Tom and tells him she can help him. He meets her at a hotel but she tries to murder him in a hotel
room. She drugs him heavily and they wrestle. She is about to get the best of Tom when another man finds them and
kills the woman. Tom passes out. Later Tom spies on LUNT in his home. He almost ...
1. Seven opening scene
As the scene starts Detective Somerset seems to be a lonely man as
there is absolutely no sound being made and the fact that there is no
friend, family or wife in the apartment emphasis this. Also the only sound
heard is off-screen diegtic sound coming from a neighbours TV, showing
how quiet Mr. Somerset’s apartment is and lonely he is. A medium close
up of Somerset’s face is shown as he is putting on his tie perfectly, which
seems that he is obsessive.
A close up of all the equipment is shown on the table, and Somerset is
collecting items one by one. This shows audience what kind of character
he is, organised and this seems to be his routine every day. Then once
Somerset puts on his suit, he takes one little piece of dust of it, to show
that character has a very routine and organised life. After a jump cut is
made and a dead man on floor is shown and detective Somerset is just
walking through crime scene very calm, not allowing the crimes to affect
him just treating it as a job so he doesn’t become crazy. Somerset asks if
the kid has seen the crime, probably trying to protect the kid from such
crimes, also showing he is caring. The detective replies “what kind of a
question is that?” and then saying “you always ask that kind of weird
question, we will be glad when you’re gone”. This emphasis how lonely
Somerset is because his own work people seem to hate him, Somerset is
rejected by everyone. Once detective Mills enters he seems to be very
confident, which shows in the way he speaks.
As detective Mills and Somerset is walking a two shot is used, and when
someone barges into Mills, he reacts as if he wants to hurt that person,
showing us that this character is very short tempered, and from the city
where the streets is not as busy as in the city. The killing shows Somerset
is very used to this and the only reason why he is sane is because of his
routine like once he is going to sleep there lots of crime going on but he
has a peaceful ticking mediation thing in his room helping him go to
sleep. Judging from these two characters they seem to the complete
opposite character. Enigma is established because of how different the
detectives are and that they have to work with each other, also enigma is
created because the audience want to know how Mills will cope as a new
inexperienced detective in a very rough town, and how Detective
Somerset keeps sane because it seems very hard as he is very lonely in a
very depressing town, this all creates enigma for audience which will keep
them engaged.
2. The themes that are established in this scene are murders, as clearly both
detectives’ jobs are to deal with murders and this seems to happen very
often in this high crime rate town. Also the other theme is loneliness
showing how lonely detective Somerset is and how he tries to keep
himself sane even though he is very lonely.
The title sequence is very much in tune with what is has gone up with the
opening scene, which is about murders, however the title sequence is
more gruesome. The names of the producer, actors, etc comes up in
white and fades out (special effect) and in the background we see
disturbing pictures of murders, or something related to murders. The title
sequences suggests the film is going to be about a serial killer, or just a
film with lots of murdering, which detective Somerset and Mills have to
work on.
