  1. OpenAgile is a system for rapidly delivering value that is based on Truthfulness, Consultative Decision-Making and constant learning. OpenAgile is an "open source" process - a community of practitioners is helping to build it, and anyone can learn about it and use it and then contribute back to it!
  2. Agile methods are based on the fundamental premise that growth of people &of systems is organic, not linear, and subject to constant change. We are constantly responding to change, in ourselves and our environments – agile methods give us a way to embrace change and thrive within a complex environment in a systematic fashion.
  3. OpenAgile is a system for rapidly delivering value that is based on Truthfulness, Consultative Decision-Making and constant learning. OpenAgile is an "open source" process - a community of practitioners is helping to build it, and anyone can learn about it and use it and then contribute back to it!The Purpose of OpenAgile:To create an environment in which people are free to express their true nature and capacities to contribute to the betterment of their organization.The foundations of Open Agile are:Truthfulness – which has many aspects, including transparency, visibility, being honest with ourselves and othersConsultative decision-making -- making it possible for individuals, teams and orgs to take coherent action based on a unified visionConstant learning – the OpenAgile learning circle models learning as a cycle of 4 steps, which we repeat over and over in short cycles in order to provide opportunities for incremental learning and small failures so that we can make progress.
  4. Reflection – a pause to gather data, history, observations in order to be able to learn from our experiences. To reflect effectively, we need to develop a capacity for detachment by consciously practicing openness and objectivity in examining events, outcomes, feelings and actions.Learning – an examination of our observations to that leads us to discover new insights, skills, relationships, failures, or conceptual changes.Deep learning requires a capacity to search for underlying patterns and principles, using wisdom, judgement and consultation.The learning we want is:Systematic vs. Ad HocDeep vs. ShallowContinuous vs. SporadicApplied vs. TheoreticalShared vs. HoardedPlanning – we create a new plan of action, actively applying the conceptual principles and understandings from the learning phase in order to do more of the things that lead to success and to try new ideas. This requires a capacity for love of learning and a passion for what it is you do. (Aside: motivation  autonomy, mastery, purpose)Action – in the Action step, we carry out the plan we have created, using our capacity for courage to make the choice to act in the face of uncertainty to build new relationships and try new ideas and actions.Guidance – can be external or internal inspiration, advice, direction, accompaniment – from selves, other team members or sources outside the team.
  5. The Process is to take a large goal/objective and break it down into manageable parts.Work cycles are short (often 1-2 weeks long)Each work cycle starts with an Engagement Meeting – team reflection, learning about the Value Drivers in relation to the goals, planning – selecting what value drivers to act on, breaking them into tasks to be completed.During a work cycle, the team volunteers for tasks.Only required role is team member – growth facilitation and process facilitation are required services, but can be performed/shared by team members in many cases.
