A smart city is one of the many concepts of cities of tomorrow, you have other concept such as green cities or cities as a service. A smart city is a data driven city where a wide array of smart and connected infrastructure delivers sustainable and prosperous future for its citizens. The concept of Smart City revolves around the concept of Smart mobility. “Smart mobility” can be defined as a way to move people and goods using new technology that is faster, cleaner, protected, secure, connected, intelligent, more accessible and less expensive than traditional options. Smart mobility revolves around the Electric Vehicle and is about striving toward frictionless, automated and personalized mobility. Scientific and Economic Observers expect that electric vehicle will represent 35% of all new vehicles sales by 2022 and that it will represent 41 millions of sales per year by 2040. This evolution won’t be without consequences: A predictable outcome would be an increase in both the number and the size of Electric car batteries. However, the principal components of these batteries are projected to disappear. To be able to have the brilliant utopian future described earlier, this problem needs to be solved.

FME provided an easy way to process the Excel data automatically, merge it with city district geometries and visualize the data with charts and pie charts in PDF files based on different criteria. Thus the users get an access to the PDF files, and can see, how the electricity consumption behaves.

There are thousands of applications listed in these databases. Some of the proposed turbines in these applications will interfere with radar due to their height and location, many will not. In order to assess where to focus our efforts we need to identify where these are, on what scale the developments, which radars they are likely to interfere with and at what stage of planning they are at. When these developments have been identified, we need to establish the best location to position our 3D radar so we can successfully mitigate the effects of wind turbines on surrounding radars. Esri ArcGIS assists all departments from Sales through to Engineering and really enables us to manage our data in a way that everyone understands.

Serving the Real-Time Data Needs of an Airport with Kafka Streams and KSQL

Airports are complex networks consisting of an immense number of systems that are necessary to keep the daily stream of passengers in constant motion. Connecting these systems in order to make the big picture transparent to the people running the show, authorities and last but not least the passengers is no simple endeavor. In this talk I will describe a fictional airport and its effort to restructure the IT infrastructure around Kafka Streams to serve the real-time data needs of a busy airport. I will start by giving a brief overview of Kafka Streams, KSQL and the opportunities they offer for real-time stream processing. Following that we will explore the the target architecture, which relies heavily on manifested views to serve up-to-date data, while also persisting to a traditional data lake for larger analytics workflows. Additionally we will take a look at the generic data transformation framework that was created to minimize integration effort of the data receiving systems. To illustrate these ideas I will describe some examples of possible integrations: joining flight data with radar and weather data to predict arrival time at the gate down to the second, constantly updated processing data from the luggage conveyor belts as well as results from prediction models for passenger flow, and many more.
