Jason Evans, The National Library of Wales Over the last 5 years the National Library of Wales have been on a Journey to becoming more 'Open'. With an Open policy in place, Wikimedia platforms have provided a vehicle for implementation, exploration and impact. The Library's National Wikimedian, will discuss the ethos behind the idea of being 'Open by Default' and the reasons for investing in Wikipedia and its sister projects. The newly launched interactive Dictionary of Welsh Biography timeline tool will be used to highlight not only what can be achieved through sharing open data but the process needed to reach such an outcome, from outsourcing projects and events to the sharing of Digital images and linked open data. Learn about the impacts of work, from community engagement to hundreds of millions of image views. The speaker will explain how converting traditional metadata to linked open data can help to enrich datasets, improve user experience, and offer new insight into old collections.
