About 5700 historical monuments, like farm houses, mills, churches, bridges, or parks, are located in the Canton of Zurich. They are registered and supervised by the canton's Built Heritage service (Denkmalpflege Kanton Zürich). The department's staff includes architects, historians and archeologists who will be supported by the new information portal in their daily tasks. The portal will help to manage the register of monuments, to document the history and current condition of the included monuments, to develop rules for the protection and standards for their conservation and to inform monument owners and the general public.
DIQA Projektmanagement GmbH, Karlsruhe will develop this portal based on Semantic MediaWiki.
GRASP ("Graph for SharePoint") is the SharePoint solution that brings professional terminology management to the SharePoint term store. You can import and update terminologies from external systems (in SKOS, TBX) that can be deployed into termstores. You can revise terminologies directly and collaboratively in SharePoint. You can create working copies of terminologies that are modified directly in SharePoint by your users before they take effect in the managed metadata. You can create complex models, e.g. medical terminologies, that include poly-hierarchies. Poly-hierarchies are considered in the SharePoint search. Regular users can browse terminologies outside the termstore manager in a convenient terminology browser.
SharePoint Synonym search- and entity extraction-dictionary are generated from the termstore.
GRASP is the term store management tool!
More info about GRASP: http://www.diqa-pm.de/en/Professional_terminology_management_in_SharePoint
More info about DIQA: http://www.diqa-pm.de/en/About_DIQA
Return on Investment:
GRASP is a standard product that requires no customization or project effort. It is deployed easily on your SharePoint farm and immediately reduces the time needed to build terminologies. Existing terminologies in Excel-sheets can be migrated with minimal effort.
The "SharePoint Findability" solution from DIQA provides reliable products and a proven method to find documents quicker and more efficiently. We employ Semantic Web technologies in order to actively guide users in the search process, to offer alternative search possibilities and to provide comprehensive ways to navigate in search hits.

One of the most important new features that came with the new Windows 8 OS is the introduction of a new API called Windows Runtime (WinRT). This new API allows us to create Windows apps, a new type of applications built specifically for the new Windows Modern UI.
If you are a SharePoint developer you are probably wondering how you can use this new Windows app model to extend your SharePoint solutions?
That is what we will investigate in this session. First we will go through the fundamentals of building a Windows app. Then we will see how we can consume the data from SharePoint and leverage its features from those apps to build a new generation of bussiness applications.

There is a part of the engineering & construction lifecycle where huge amounts of inefficiency exists. Project documents are numerous and with the changes in the industry towards 3D BIM, stakeholders involved in the review process need more sophisticated tools and applications to work with this complex information. Documents that define buildings, infrastructure and assets are not only growing in complexity but also in physical size. In order to deal with the processing of the variety and complexity of data, organizations need to rethink what tools and applications will be needed to enable the efficient and integrated processes demanded by projects. Oracle AutoVue brings a unique set of capabilities that supports the variety of application formats, helping companies involved in the engineering construction lifecycle to deliver operational efficiencies that are integrated to the Primavera solutions. We explore the use of deep integration to Unifier BP’s, working in conjunction with drawings and Building Information Models enabling all stakeholders to view and digitally collaborate on project documents in the appropriate business context.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms.
