2. MOTIVATION
Cooperating organizations act separately, but data used
by the processes are not independent.
ISSUE
Hidden relations between business processes of different
organizations affect the global result.
GOAL
To Identify and discover interconnections between
business processes in an event enriched environment
(PiE).
To acquire knowledge about the global process and
conduct advanced process analysis.
5. PiE - Scenario
Organization 1
Event Pool
Organization 2
How processes of different
organizations interact?
How the environment affects the
processes?
6. Events
An Event is the record of an interesting fact detected in
the observed environment.
It is defined by a content, a type, and a timestamp.
CATEGORIES
Process Events generated during the execution of a
process. They can be mapped to the execution of an
activity.
Environmental Events generated by sensors in the
environment. Indirectly related to processes.

22. PiE Analysis
Discovered relations can be exploited for mining
information about processes execution.
General Analysis … conformance and coverage of
process activities
Use-case specific information answer question about
the execution of the global process
Which are the assistance activities followed by the production of
a report? How many activities require a payment and how
often they are executed? Which is the average duration of the
cleaning and dressing activities for a specific subject? Is it
regular? Does it change with operator? Is it in line with
the duration of the same activities on other subjects?
Which is the average cost of the grocery shopping for a specific
subject and from what this cost is dependent?
23. Future Steps
Promising preliminary results. We plan to:
validate the PiE methodology in a complex real
case study
implement a tool for automatic execution of
process analysis
apply PiE to other fields involving interacting
processes and IoT devices
