Michelle Schira Hagerman is a researcher at Michigan State University who studies adolescent online reading and literacy skills. Her current research examines how 9th grade students synthesize information from multiple online sources and whether instruction in online synthesis improves reading and writing abilities. The study uses a pre-test/post-test design with random assignment to different instructional conditions. Data is collected through standardized tests, recordings of students' online activities, notes, written work, and interviews to analyze how students find and synthesize information from various online sources.
