INTRODUCTION
Social studies are concerned with a man and his instruction with social and
physical environment. They deal with human relationship. Like any other subject
rooms there should be a separate room for social studies. The setting and
arrangement of this room should be such that it creates an atmosphere room should
be such that it creates an atmosphere for study & teaching of social studies. The
students entering the room would find themselves interested in the learning of
social studies.
At present we have various types of teaching aids such as text books,
reference books, pamphlets, map, charts, projector, models, magazines etc and
these can be properly used if stored in a systematic way in a separate room called
the social studies room. In fact a well equipped social studies room is essential for
fostering a particular attitudes of mind among the pupils.
It has been observed by M.P Mefatt “class room furnishing and their
arrangements have direct hearing up on the quality of results obtained. Satisfactory
outcomes can be expected from any are provided. It should be furnished to provide
a suitable environment for acquiring and practicing social studies skill”.

NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
At present we have various type of teaching aids such as text book,
reference books, maps, charts, projectors, models etc. The social studies room
should be the place where a healthy social relationship develops between pupils
and pupils and also between pupils and teacher. To achieve it student’s be given
their due share in the management of the social studies room. So I choose this
topic.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
 To know about the features and significance of social studies room”
 To understand the importance of social studies.
 To find out the various use of social studies room
 To identify the effectiveness of social science class room in social studies.

THEORATICAL OVERVIEW
“Social studies are the portion or selected for intentional purpose”. At
present we have various types of teaching aids these can be preferly used if they
are stored in a systematic way in a separate room called the social studies room.
It should be provided with the following equipment,
i. Audio- visual material including film strip, projector, magic lantern,
tape recorder etc
ii. Bulleting boards
iii. Charts and graphs
iv. Globes
v. Maps and atlases
The utility of these items are given in brief
a. Chalk board
The colour of such a board may be green, yellow, white or even black.
This is used to draw outline pictures as also to write summaries etc. It
should be located at such a place that it can be easily be seen by the
students.

b. Bulletin Board
It is used to display maps, charts, current events, new items, paper
cuttings, magazine articles etc.
c. Furnitures
Sufficient furniture for sitting of the students be provided. It should
also be provided with a movable desk or table and a chair for the teacher.
d. Books and Book cases
Text book by different authors current magazines, periodicals, reference
books be provided insufficient numbers. So that student have an easy
access to there adding materials.
e. Audio- visual aids
The social studies room should be fully equipped with various types of
audio visual teaching aids such as pictures, maps, models, specimen,
films, film strips, glob etc.
f. Collections
A corner in the social studies room be reserved for old coins, old
clothes, dresses, stencils historical relics, old paintings, act, pictures
etc. Flag of different nations be also exhibited in the social studies
room.
g. Paint & water colours

Social studies room should also be provided with paints, water colour,
coloured pencils, inks pen holders, brushes, rules, compass, erasers,
scissors, blotters, special papers of different sizes colour, paste, paper
clips, draconic sets etc.
h. Cabinets and files
Cabinets and files are required to store different materials. The filling
system is helpful in locating the needed articles at ones.

ADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL STUDIES ROOM
Various advantages of a separate studies room for the teaching of social studies as
under.
1. Scientific teaching ;- It helps to make it possible to bring about the
scientific teaching of the subject
2. It makes teaching of social studies effectives;- In the absence of a separate
social studies room the teacher has to carry the teaching aids and other
materials with him.
3. Proper atmosphere:- It creates an atmosphere suitable and congenial for the
teaching of social studies
4. It develops the power of imagination and observation:- In a particularly
equipped social studies room, there are maps, charts and other useful things for
the teaching of social studies.

CONCLUSION
By instructional materials we mean the tools of teaching and learning in and
rest of the classroom. Any discussion on instructional material will generally start
with the text books. Like any other subject rooms there should be a separate
room for social studies. At present tense have various type of teaching aids such as
text books, reference books, pamphlets, map, charts helps for social studies. A
provision of a special room for social studies is desirable are providing home of
their own to teachers for developing enthusiasm for the subject and faith in
themselves and student. The most important equipment of the social studies rooms
are audio visual material includes filmstrip, epidiascope, projector etc.
