INTRODUCTION
This is the age of technology. It’s influence is being
reflected in all productive endeavours ,whether it can be an
industry or an agricultural project t. Education too ,it being a
developmental endeavour aiming at raising the level of
productivity of a nation has been very much influenced by the
message of technology ,this message being maximizing the
output in both quality and quandity.
Educational technology is the use of
both physical hardware , software and educational theoretic to
facilitate and improving performance by creating using a
managing appropriate technical processes and resources.
Educational technology for learning
management such as tools for student and curriculum
management and education management information
systems. The meaning objectives and scope of educational
tachnology is described in this assignment.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Accordingto G.O.M.Leith, EducationalTechnologyis the
applicationof scientific knowledge aboutlearning and conditionsof
learning to improve the effectivenessand efficiencyof teachingand
learning.
MEANING OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Educationaltechnologyis considered as a system ,educationis a system
in which 5M’s ,such as media ,machines, man, material, and media.
Which are inter-related and work togetherfor the fulfillmentof specific
educationalobjectives.
“TechnologyExplosion has yielded severalnew
machines, materials and media which have greatpotentialfor use in the
educationalenterprise.An adequateknowledgeof theory and practices
of educationaltechnologyand theirproper use would enablethe teacher
to understand and effectivelydischarge his new roles in the educational
system in an age of ‘information explosion’,’ population explosion’,
and ‘expectationexplosion’.

OBJECTI ES OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
General objectives of educational technology
Hillard Jason has stated the following major objectivesof educational
technologykeepingthe teachersin view,
1)Transmitting information
2)Serving as a roll model.
3)Assisting the practiceof developingspecific skills.
4)Contributionto the provision of feedback
M.C Kenizeand others has stated the following majorobjectiveswith
students as focalpoint.
1)The need to reachout maximum numberof people.
2)To reach out them with an improved range of learning materials.
3)To offer greateropportunitiesfor independentstudy.
4)To permit atleasta limited students responds
MACROLEVELOBJECTIVES
1)To identify the need and aspirations of the community
2)To determinethe aims ,objectivesand generalstructure of education.
3)To developan integratedcurriculum or arts, scienceand human value.
6
4)To identify and locatematerialresourcesand strategiesfor achieving
the generalstructure of education.
5)To developspecific modelsof teachingto bring aboutan
improvementin the teachinglearningprocess.
6)To design modify and develop appropriateequipmentsor aids suitable
and relevantto the educationalprocess.
7)To identify the latentenvironmentalcostraints and meansto tackle
them.
8)To assist in providing vocationalopportunitiesto the needy and
deserving.
9)To managethe entire educationalsystem consists of planning
,implementationand evaluationphases.
MICROLEVELOBJECTIVES
1)To identify the educationalneedsof the learner.
2)To asses the characteristicof the students
3)To determineand formulate classroom objectivesin behavioural
terms.
4)To identify the necessary teachinglearning material
7
5)To identify the contentsof instructions and organizethem in a proper
sequence.
6)To predeterminethe nature of interactionbetweensubsystems that is
students, teachers,teachers-learningmaterialcontents,and
methodologies.
7)To identify human resources.
8)To plan out teachingstrategies. Models and methods as per the needs
and objectives.
9)To evaluatethe effectivenessof learning outcomesthatis behavioural
changesin the students.
10)To provide appropriatefeedbackto students as wellas teachers.
11)To modify the teachinglearning processon the basis of feedback
received.
SCOPE OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Scope of educationaltechnologyis as wide as educationitself. It’s
scope ranges from the concrete educationalprocessto the most abstract
and subtle ones. It includesthe use of hardware and software systems
analysis in variouseducationaloperations. The possibility of using
educationaltechnologyin almost all areasof educationhas been and is
being explored. These are three major areasin educationin which its
8
scope is very wide .These are : (1) Technologyrelated to general
educationaladministrationand management.(2) Technologyrelated to
generaleducationaltesting.(3) Technologyrelated to instructional
process.
Rowntra(1973) has stated the following as the provinc of educational
technologists:
1.Identifying aims and objectivesof learning.
2.Planning the learning environment.
3.Exploring and structuring the objectmatter.
4.Selectingappropriate teachingstrategiesand learningmedia.
5.Evaluatingthe effectivenessof the learning system.
6.Using the insights gainedfrom evaluationto improve their
effectiveness of the future.
Importantareas whichshoud comprise educationaltechnology areas
under:
1.Coceptand variousfacets of educationaltechnology.
2.Teachinglearning process.
3.Individualisedinstructionaltechnology.
4.Programmedlearning.
9
5.Teachingmodels.
6.Learning theories.
7.Multimedia approachto teaching.
8.Mathetics.
9.Cybernetics.
10.Task analysis.
11.Modules.
12.Systems approach.
10
CONCLUSION
Accordingto Robert.A. Cox Educationaltechnologyis the application
of scientific process to man’s learning conditionsto whathas come
recently to be called Educationalor InstructionalTechnology.
The scope of educationaltechnologyis as wide as educational
technologyis as wide as itself. Educationaltechnologyis an inclusive
term of tools that technologicallyor electronicallysupportlearningand
teaching
Design, development,utilization ,management,and evaluationare the
five basic domainsof the field .Technology is both a tool and a
catalyzerand it can becomea mediumthrough which changecan
happen.So we can concludethat educationaltechnologyhelpsto
individualizedinstruction, equilising educationalopportunities,
improvementin the quality of teachingetc. It tries to study the phases of
teaching, skills of teaching and learning, principlesof teachingetc.
