An experiment was conducted where an onion was placed half submerged in a jar of water on a sunny windowsill. Over several days, roots began to grow from the portion of the onion in the water as it drank up the liquid. Eventually, long green leaves sprouted from the top of the onion as well, with more leaves continuing to grow.

2. Onion experiment We half fill a jar with water. We put an onion on top of the jar and just immerse it in water. We put the jar with the onion on a sunny window sill. We observe what is happening during the following days. We put in more water into the jar as the onion is drinking up the water. Then roots begin to appear in the part of the onion that is in the water. More and more roots begin to grow. Then something else happened. Long leaves begin to sprout from the top of the onion. More and more leaves sprout till there are many leaves.
