The government is going to provide ‘on-the-job training’ to tenth graders from technical and vocational
stream.
Curriculum Development Centre (CDC),the main executing body, is preparing work procedure with
details to implement this part of the curriculum from this year.
Diwakar Dhungel, executive director of CDC, today said students from technical and vocational stream
will be participating in on-the-job training after finishing School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam-2071.
The training course will be for a month. The students will learn by doing work given by some
organisations, firms or any association, which will provide training to students. Such organisations and
associations could even hire such students later. He said, “Since on-the-job training is a part of their
studies, the students must complete it to receive SLC certificate.”
According to Dhungel, the work procedure is in the final stage,but before finalising it they will be talking
to the concerned stakeholders such as Department of Education, Office of the Controller of Examination
(OCE),school representatives and others.
He stated that students will receive some fund during the training period. The students can use the fund to
buy stationery or other supporting materials for their training.
“We have not yet finalised the amount that we are going to provide to each student in ‘on-the-job
training,” he said.
He stated that the fund would be released by the Department of Education to the schools for the students.
Currently, 99 schools across the country have been providing technical and vocational education to
students in the pilot phase.
According to OCE,around 4,500 students from technical and vocational stream are going to appear in the
SLC exam scheduled to begin from March 19 this year.
Students from technical and vocational stream are going to appear in the SLC exam from this year for the
first time.
Similarly, for the first time, the government has decided to adopt grading system while publishing result.
School Sector Reform Plan (SSRP),the government plan to reform the education sector, has envisioned
two streams in school education; general and technical and vocational education.
The students studying 29 technical and vocational subjects under various category such as Computer
Science, Plant Studies, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and others will be participating in the
training.
