Smart Design's engineers and designers visited OrangeX's foundry in Venezuela to understand their juicer manufacturing process and goals for the new product. 3. The design team developed prototypes through sketches, motion studies, and foam models to refine the rocker-crank juice extraction mechanism and make it easier for people of all ages and strengths to use.

4. The sand casting process doesn't allow for small details or sharp edges ; they get lost with the coarseness of the sand mold. Next problem is that iron is heavy, resulting in considerable shipping costs. The project goal was to reduce the weight of the product. Another goal was to improve employee relations. 6. After squeezing lots of oranges, the team determined that the best- performing juice- extraction mechanism was a rocker-crank with a long lever. Two-dimensional mechanical motion studies were used to explore various configurations for a rocker-crank mechanism. The team brought together people of all ages and hand sizes, asked them to try the model, then used what they learned to refine the rocker crank.
