Offering
• Qorban- literally means “a thing brought near”.
The word contains a clue to the significance of
the sacrificial system.
• The sacrifices provided the means by which a
worshiper could come into the presence of
GOD!
• That which was most costly and valuable was
given to the Lord. God required that the animal
offered had to be one without blemish or spot!
The worshiper
The one who would offer worship was very
active in the ritual. He would lay his hands on
the head of the sacrificial offering, thus
identifying with that animal.
The animal was the substitute for the
worshiper. He then killed the animal!
The priest had the responsibility to apply the
blood either on the outer or inner altar
depending on the sacrifice.
The worshiper
Leviticus 7:29 Speak unto the children of
Israel, saying, He that offers the sacrifice of
his peace offerings unto the LORD shall
bring his offering unto the LORD of the
sacrifice of his peace offerings.
Leviticus 7:30 His own hands shall bring
the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the
fat with the breast, it shall he bring, that the
breast may be waved for a wave offering
before the LORD.
Jesus our offering
• Hebrews 13:12 Therefore Jesus also, that
he might sanctify the people with His own
blood, suffered outside the gate.
• Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the
new covenant, which is shed for many for the
remission of sins.
Jesus our offering
Isaiah 53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs, and
carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our
transgressions, he was bruised for our
iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was
upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
the chastisement of our peace
That is, the chastisement (punishment) by which our
peace is effected or secured was laid upon Him; or,
He took it upon himself and bore it, in order that we
might have peace.
Often it means admonition or instruction, such as
parents give to their children or God to His children.
The word does not of necessity stand for punishment,
though it is often used in that war but it is that which
corrects, whether it be by admonition, counsel,
punishment, or suffering. Pr 22:15; 23:13..Heb.12:6
the chastisement of our peace
It does not mean punishment in Isa.53!
It means that HE took upon himself the
sufferings which would secure the peace
of those for whom he died
Peace means reconciliation with Jehovah
God (Isa. 59:1-3)
