Ms. Oeding’s fifth grade class idea for aClassroomLiteracyprofile
Welcome!I’m Ms. Oeding and this power point shows my idea for my CLP for the 2010-2011 upcoming school year. I teach fifth grade and this CLP is something new to me! It was a great learning experience and I always look forward trying new things. I just wanted to say thanks to Dr. Ford for the CLP ideas and resources as well as everyone for their ideas and suggestions discussed on the discussion board and through blogging!
Collaboration	Getting this CLP started was not an easy task. I needed to find a colleague that would be willing to work on something “new.” After reading many of the discussion board and blogs, I was able to get a good idea about what needed to go into this “new” CLP. The CLP was something I had heard of, but never actually tried. This was all going to be a new experience.
…continued	I decided to ask a third grade teacher within my building to collaborate with me and come up with a CLP idea. I thought choosing this third grade teacher was a good idea for many different reasons. One was the fact that this teacher is always willing to try new things, this teacher is always “on top” on what’s new in educations. Since I teach fifth grade (upper level) and my CLP colleague teaches third grade (lower level) I thought we each might be able to try it for a year and share how useful and wonderful the CLP was for each of us. It was also nice to collaborate and see the continuation from lower level to upper level.
Importance of the . . .Beneficial to all students.Great way to monitor students and their progress.Fabulous organizational tool. Will be passed from one grade level to the next. CLPCLP
The four major components of my CLP . . . The following slide shows the four major parts of my first year CLP. My third grade colleague and I have decided that we do not want to overwhelm ourselves, so we included documents that will help us better know and monitor our students. We feel it is better to start off a new project slow!
Take a look at what’s inside my clp!
DIBELS
Comprehension Assessment	I have materials that have gathered over the years that test for comprehension. DIBELS is the key component at this time of the CLP, but I have learned of other comprehension assessments through the blogs and discussion boards that I will be taking a more in depth look at. The goal is to monitor comprehension every two weeks for students that are not mastering the school corporations benchmark reading comprehension assessment. These scores will be recorded in the CLP.
This is a tool that I want to include in my CLP that I read about in our text. It can be found on page 282. This is also a tool I want to include in my CLP. I also just found this tool in the text. I think it is always important to have an understanding about what interests the student. A student is going to be more interested if they are reading about something that interests them!CMRSUThe Motivation for Reading Questionnaire
Key resourcesThe key to beginning a CLP is to have an idea about what you want to focus on. I think it is also important to have a variety of resources. I have learned a great about different types of assessments and key reading instruction through the course text, but I also learned a great deal through the discussion with other teachers in the course. I believe that when you can talk with other who have the ideas or have tried different things, you will gain the most information. My colleague and I have learned a lot of new assessments that we plan to discuss with our school principal. This year I am trying four key components of my CLP, but once I learn more about these new assessments, I am willing to change and modify my CLP as needed!
