Pablo Neruda was a Chilean poet who wrote under the pen name Pablo Neruda. Some of his works included love poems, surrealist poems, historical epics, and political manifestos. Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. He always wrote in green ink as it symbolized hope for him. Neruda died in 1973 from complications of cancer just days after the Chilean coup led by Augusto Pinochet took place, despite Pinochet denying permission for a public funeral.
