Octalysis Prime Design Challenge: Project: Design New OP Items IIYu-kai Chou
Many OP Members have been using Items on the Island to grow and level up. However, there are still only 3 types of items, which could feel a bit undiversified and short on meaningful choices.
We would love to have OP Members come up with new meaningful ways to spend their Chou Coins and make their OP experiences more enjoyable and dynamic.
The Winner and Finalists will be selected based on who has the most ideas that we will end up deciding to implement on the Island.
Octalysis Prime Design Challenge: Project: Food Heroes, Part 2Yu-kai Chou
The OP Design Challenges provides OP Members opportunities to practice their Octalysis Gamification Skills to make everything awesome.
Watching OP videos is a good start, but applying your knowledge is part of the journey that Octalysis Experts must take! This time around we are visiting a real-life project that aims to impact the world in multiple ways.
Of course, you will earn upvotes for EXP, credibility, prestige, and a massive amount of valuable Chou Coins to help you level towards Silver or even Gold Status.
We are continuously striving to improve the quality of these challenges: Your feedback is welcome!

Today, as always, there are many different initiatives underway to help improve the way we develop software. The most popular and prevalent of which is the Agile Movement. One of the new kids on the block is the SEMAT initiative. As with any new initiative people are struggling to see how it fits into the world and how it relates to all the other things going on. For example does it improve or replace their current ways of working. Is it something like lean that supports and furthers the aims of the Agile Movement, or is it something like waterfall planning that is in opposition to an agile approach?
The good news is that both Agile and SEMAT promote non-prescriptive value-based philosophies that encourage software development teams to select and use whatever practices best fit their context and, most importantly, continuously inspect, adapt and improve their way of working. In this keynote we will look at how these two initiatives complement one another, providing the perfect foundation for teams that want to master the art of software development.

Vasco Duarte - Agile Innovation - Product Management in turbulent times - ConFuDevConFu
In today’s world we are constantly confronted with the message that the competition is breeding down our necks, that the market and environment are changing and we need to change with them. And most importantly, we are told that we need to listen to our customers to be able to provide the right products. We as a Product Managers need to be able to see beyond the basic product decisions, e.g. do we add feature A or feature B? We need to think beyond the silo of our function to be able to drive innovation into our products. In this session we will look at the role of Product Managers in an agile product development environment, and as agents of innovation
We have a lot of talent here in Octalysis Prime, and each Challenge we are impressed with your work. The level of submissions by our trusted veterans is now often so high that new Primers can feel intimidated to participate.
We also noticed that we’ve been focusing on one aspect of Gamification: Brainstorming.
There are many more important aspects of human-focused design: user research, analyzing, game looping, battle-planning, visual design... After all, a good idea only yield results if it’s implemented
in the right place, for the right people, in the right way. So, we decided to do something different.
For this Challenge you will produce a concise finished deliverable.

Between Filth and Fortune- Urban Cattle Foraging Realities by Devi S Nair, An...Mansi Shah
This study examines cattle rearing in urban and rural settings, focusing on milk production and consumption. By exploring a case in Ahmedabad, it highlights the challenges and processes in dairy farming across different environments, emphasising the need for sustainable practices and the essential role of milk in daily consumption.
Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

2. Welcome
Level 2
Hi Octalysis Primer,
You have proven your competency in the usage of the fundamentals of the
Octalysis Framework in attaining your level 1 Certificate. Since, you have
watched even more videos to learn, as well as discussed more complicated
topics on Slack.
Now it is time for a level higher, an Octalevelis higher!
While a level 1 Certificate is quite impressive, it is still entry-level into Octalysis
gamification. A level 2 has additional requirements and the overall standard is
much higher.
For a level 2 you must demonstrate skill in the application of the Octalysis
Framework as well as apply all elements of the Octalysis Strategy Dashboard.
It is not meant to be quick, nor easy. It is meant to be rare and prestigious.
If you have any questions, reach out to myrte@chouforce.com.
3. TheOctalysisCertificate
The Octalysis Certificate is the official badge of honor by Yu-kai and his team to validate that
someone has the proper understanding and skills to wield the Octalysis Framework.
Instead of taking an easy multiple-choice quiz, like many other certificates require (sometimes
after a $1000+ payment), the Octalysis Certificate is earned by submitting a free form design.
Following the Octalysis Strategy Dashboard, an Octalysis Analysis and Brainstorming.
This is the type of work and discipline that true experts and designers use in real life projects
to improve the world.
4. WhatOthersSayAboutOctalysis
”Yu-kai is at the cutting edge of the field of behavioral design."
Nir Eyal, Author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products
"Octalysis is a powerful and pragmatic framework to understand human nature and positive motivators that
encourage people to do their best work. It should be required reading for anyone building, managing, or
collaborating with a team, community, or ecosystem.”
Susie Wee, CTO of Networked Experiences at Cisco Systems
“Yu-kai’s Insights were instrumental in helping Lucky Diem supercharge our client La Quinta’s bookings per user by
206% and incremental revenue per user by $157 (132% Lift) against the control group. Being able to achieve a viral
coefficient of 530%, I would recommend any business to work with Yu-kai and learn his Octalysis Framework.”
Andrew Landis, Founder & CEO of Lucky Diem
"Yu-Kai’s Octalysis framework is a powerful addition to the tool kit of any creative professional."
David Webster, Managing Director of IDEO
