To come to the LMC ...
1. You must always have a signed Pass.
Either in the calendar section of your
agenda or a MC pass.
2. You must have your ID to check out.
3. To use a computer, pass from teacher
must indicate computer.
When to come to the LMC . . .
The Media Center is open daily from
7:15 am to 3:15 pm.
HOWEVER, the LMC is closed from 7:35
until after morning announcements, AND
from 2:25 until after dismissal.
Why to come to the LMC . . .
To check out books
To research
To use a computer (to type, print, etc.)
To use the Student Workroom
To buy an agenda
To buy an ID, a temporary ID, ID case
or lanyard.
LMC Policies
NO loud talking, horseplay, running, etc.
NO food, drinks, candy or gum.
Enter & Exit ONLY from the main
entrance to the LMC unless you have
permission from the MS or your teacher.
Students who do not follow policies
WILL BE SENT BACK TO CLASS with
an note and/or email to the teacher
and/or Dr. Kolman.
LMC Policies
This is YOUR LIBRARY!
ALWAYS leave the books on the shelf
standing and in correct order.
DO NOT leave books on the floor!
If you do not know where a book “lives”
on the shelf, please place it on the cart
known as the “Wayward Wagon.”
If the MC is closed, books can be returned
in the drop-box in the hallway.

Books are divided into 3 sections:
•Fiction - Books that are made up by the
author, or are not true.
•Non-Fiction - Books that are factual or true.
•Reference - Non-fiction books that do not
leave the library.
Fiction books are shelved by Genre
and then are in alphabetical order by the
author's last name.
•Adventure
•Animals
•Fantasy
•Graphic Novels
•Historical
•Horror
•Humor
•Juvenile
•Multicultural
•Mystery
•Romance
•Science
•Sports
•Story Collection
•Young Adult
Non-Fiction books are shelved by the
Dewey Decimal system.
000-099 Generalities
100-199 Philosophy and Psychology
200-299 Religion
300-399 Social Sciences
400-499 Language
500-599 Natural Sciences and Math
600-699 Technology
700-799 Arts
800-899 Literature
900-999 Geography and History
Reference Books
Reference books are located in the
Student Workroom/Conference Room.
They are shelved by the Dewey Decimal
System and have the letters “REF” in
front of the call number. They cannot be
checked out.
Magazines
Students may read the magazines
while in the Media Center. They
may not be checked out.
Audio Books
Students may check out Audio Books
(Playaways) as long as they checkout the
hard copy of the same title.
NOTE: Playaways are very expensive and extra
care should be taken to see that they are not
damaged or lost.
Digital Audio Books can also be found
through Destiny Discover and listened to
on a computer or hand-held device. You
should have a hard copy of the book to
read along while listening.

• Books are marked with AR stickers on the
spine. Book Level & Points and Lexile Levels
are inside front cover.
• You may ONLY take AR quizzes in your
Reading classroom or in one of Resource
classrooms with teacher present.
• DO NOT take quizzes for other students!
• DO NOT share your password with anyone!
Checking out books:
1. Scan your ID.
2. Scan bar code on each book.
3. Take a Date Due card out of the “OUT” holder
and place it in the pocket in the back of the book.
When returning books:
1. Remove Date Due cards from back of books and
place in the "IN" basket.
2. Place books in the return slot on the circulation
desk.
Students may check out 2 books for a period of
2 weeks. You may renew your books if you
need more time.
•A fine of $.05 per school day per book will
be charged for overdue books.
•Students who have overdue books or fines
may NOT check out additional books.
•A list of Overdues are sent daily to reading
teachers. Silent lunch if you are on the list.
•DO NOT check out books for others!
DO NOT REMOVE DUST JACKETS,
BARCODES OR BOOK POCKETS FROM
BOOKS.
Students will be charged $1.00 for each
damaged or missing cover, barcode or
book pocket.
Lost or damaged books must be paid
for at cost.
Computers &
Chromebooks
• Remember to always LOG OFF
after using a computer.
• NEVER play Games in the media
center, unless you have a note
signed by your teacher, and then
only on approved sites.
