11. Easy Fiction-Labeled with an E
These books are sometimes called Easy
Readers or Picture Books. The pictures called
illustrations are an important part of the story.

12. Fiction-Labeled with an F or Fic
These books are sometimes called chapter
books because they have many chapters or
sections.
They are longer than picture books and have
more words than pictures.
Examples: Diary of Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries, The
Cat in the Hat, The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Fiction books are in alphabetical order by the
author’s last name.

13. “Easy Fiction and Fiction books
are pretend or make believe
stories. These books can take
you on grand adventures to the
mountains, Africa, outerspace,
and even imaginary places like
Camelot and Hogwarts!

14. Non Fiction Books are true books that give facts
and real information.
Books are organized by subject and use CALL
NUMBERS.
The CALL NUMBERS are called the Dewey
Decimal System and is a way of keeping non-
fiction books in order.

15. Biographies are also a type of non-fiction book!
These books tell the stories of people’s lives.
Here in the media center you can find
biographies about explorers, scientists,
athletes, and many other important and
famous people!

16. Reference books are also Non-Fiction books,
however these books cannot be checked out
and are for use in the media center only. These
books include Encyclopedias, Dictionaries,
Thesauruses, and Atlases.

17. Graphic novels can be both fiction or non-
fiction! This type of book is different than the
other books because it combines text and
images in multiple cells and looks like a comic
strip!

Accelerated Reader

22. You will use Accelerated
Reader to take quizzes after
finishing a book and earn
points.
Teachers will work with you to
set goals each 6 weeks.
Students who meet their 6
week goal will receive a reward
or prize from the Media Center.

If you forget your AR password,
ask a teacher or the media
specialist for help.
If you put in the wrong
password too many times, you
will be locked out!

24. 1. Please put in requests for
books/materials 2 days before you
need them.
2. All materials to be laminated
should be placed on the
appropriately labeled table next to
the storage room. Materials will be
returned to the completed
table/delivered within 3 days.
3. Please use BOSS if you encounter
technology difficulties. The media
specialist will attempt to
correct/fix issues when possible,
however tickets will be escalated to
IT if outside of her scope/abilities.
4. Teachers are responsible for
returning all materials, including
technology, to the media
center. The media specialist/clerk
will not come to your room to pick
up materials.

Collaborate on lesson planning
Teach lessons on library skills such
as conducting online
research/citing resources
Teach lessons on digital citizenship
Incorporate technology into
lessons
