This document discusses positive disruptions to the traditional data center hardware ecosystem in the 21st century. It questions many common 20th century practices like using 19-inch racks, rear server cabling, raised floors, tight temperature controls, centralized UPS and battery rooms. It argues these were based on human design constraints but newer more open source and modular designs remove these limitations. The document aims to reset mindsets around data center design and operations for simpler, more resilient and sustainable solutions using open standards.
