ESUGOCEAN is a networking library that provides a clean API for socket programming. It aims to abstract low-level socket details and support multiple protocols and backends. The library contains classes for sockets, servers, conversations and more. It has been tested for UDP and TCP sockets on IPv4 and IPv6. The current status shows 17 classes, 188 methods, and unit tests cover around 44% of the methods. The document requests help in writing additional tests and improving the library code.

Most network services and daemons now offer TLS transport protection and their managing certificates and TLS configuration for server farms may use more resources than actual configuration of these services. What if you could get rid of all this complexity and replace it by single transport protection protocol, securing all of the traffic between your servers trasparently and with single centralized key and configuration management? This will be a story of a successful implementation of IPSec protocols, largely and undeservedly forgotten in that purpose, for securing a farm of production cloud servers, with configuration centrally managed with Ansible.

This document describes the process of debugging a packet sniffing issue when using bonded ethernet interfaces on Linux. The bug was initially found when incoming packets were not being detected when sniffing individual physical interfaces, even though outgoing packets were working. After carefully examining assumptions and digging through the kernel and libpcap code, the bug was found to be: 1) the kernel was overwriting the packet's device field, and 2) an older version of libpcap was incorrectly handling packets when using its legacy retrieval method. Updating the kernel fix and libpcap resolved the issue.

Performance is one of the most challenging issues in modern web app design, in large part because modeling, testing, and validating performance before deploying to production is so challenging. While many ops teams have nailed down the problem of re-creating pre-production environments that closely mimic production, those environments frequently rely on known-good components beyond the application code itself: AWS ELB, F5 load balancers, CDNs, Varnish, and more.
Testing plug-in components like that can be challenging, because their performance characteristics don't directly align with application metrics.
- How many simultaneous users can my load balancer support? - What sort of network load will I put on my CDN (i.e., how much will it cost?) - How do different user behavior patterns affect performance?

OSv lets you ask a different question: how much would my application gain in performance if I virtualize it. This talk will start by looking into the architecture of OSv and the kind of optimizations it makes possible for native, unmodified applications. We will then focus on JVM-specific optimizations and specifically on speedups available to micro-service oriented applications when they are being deployed on OSv.
Taking Security Groups to Ludicrous Speed with OVS (OpenStack Summit 2015)
Open vSwitch (OVS) has long been a critical component of the Neutron's reference implementation, offering reliable and flexible virtual switching for cloud environments.
Being an early adopter of the OVS technology, Neutron's reference implementation made some compromises to stay within the early, stable featureset OVS exposed. In particular, Security Groups (SG) have been so far implemented by leveraging hybrid Linux Bridging and IPTables, which come at a significant performance overhead. However, thanks to recent developments and ongoing improvements within the OVS community, we are now able to implement feature-complete security groups directly within OVS.
In this talk we will summarize the existing Security Groups implementation in Neutron and compare its performance with the Open vSwitch-only approach. We hope this analysis will form the foundation of future improvements to the Neutron Open vSwitch reference design.

1. Log into the blue VM as the root user and execute the command "nc -lvp 80" to listen on port 80 using netcat in listening mode.
2. On the red VM as root, execute "nc -nv 10.0.2.12 80" to connect to port 80 on the IP address 10.0.2.12 of the blue VM.
3. Any text entered on the red VM will appear on the blue VM, demonstrating the connection. Terminating netcat on the red VM will also terminate the listener on the blue VM.
Scaling the Container Dataplane
Vector Packet Technologies such as DPDK and FD.io/VPP revolutionized software packet processing initially for discrete appliances and then for NFV use cases. Container based VNF deployments and it's supporting NFV infrastructure is now the new frontier in packet processing and has number of strong advocates among both traditional Comms Service Providers and in the Cloud. This presentation will give an overview of how DPDK and FD.io/VPP project are rising to meet the challenges of the Container dataplane. The discussion will provide an overview of the challenges, recent new features and what is coming soon in this exciting new area for the software dataplane, in both DPDK and FD.io/VPP!

An nmap scan is then run on blue from the red VM using 'nmap -sT -O 10.0.2.12 80' which detects that port 80 is open and identifies the operating system. The output of the nmap scan confirms that port 80 is open on blue as intended after opening it with netcat.

Sotaro Karasawa introduces openpear, an open source PHP package repository. Openpear allows anyone to easily contribute and release PHP packages through a web-based Subversion interface. It aims to address issues with the existing PEAR repository such as outdated packages and a complex release process.
