Debate class observation!
Teacher was very instructional, speaking for about 20 minutes and by the last 10 the class
was disengaged. Students were not interested, so as the teacher picked a bunch of
papers in her hand, they perceived it as end of her speech (although she was still talknig)
and they started chatting, turning their backs to her.!
!
At this point the teacher mentioned the debate is NOT a summative assessment, as it will
be used for their final grade. I don't believe all students heard this.!
!
Then about 8 of them gathered around her to ask questions. The rest of the class was not
engaged.!
!
The students were then divided and on target talking about their debates. The teacher sat
in the corner having the wall of students around her, not having the rest of the students in
her sight.!
!
Students finished research for their debates and simply walked out of the class at the end.
